Queensgate

Fire & Blood

Queensgate is a gate in the Wall whose strategic importance becomes clear during a large wildling raid: when the Night’s Watch was overwhelmed there, the attackers spread across the Gift, prompting Cregan Stark to lead a pursuit from Winterfell.

Setting and Role

Queensgate is identified as a point along the Wall defended by the Night’s Watch. The account places it at the opening of a wider incursion: after the defenders were overcome, the wildlings moved out across the Gift.

The Wildling Raid

A raider named Sylas the Grim led three thousand wildlings against the Wall. They overwhelmed the black brothers at Queensgate, after which Cregan Stark rode from Winterfell to hunt them down. He was joined by the Glovers of Deepwood Motte, the Flints and Norreys of the hills, and a hundred rangers from the Night’s Watch. Their pursuit brought the incursion to an end.

Narrative Significance

Queensgate’s brief appearance makes it a threshold between the Wall’s defense and the danger that follows when that defense fails. The raid’s spread across the Gift turns the gate’s loss into a regional crisis, while the response gathers northern forces and Night’s Watch rangers into a common pursuit.
