The Arbor

Fire & Blood

The Arbor is the home of Lord Redwyne and a point of connection between the island’s naval strength and Alyn Velaryon’s westward expedition. Its promised ships mattered to the fleet’s plans, while Alyn’s later visit there marked a brief return to the alliance that had not joined him when expected.

Naval Support for the Expedition

While Alyn’s fleet lingered at Oldtown, it waited for Lord Redwyne and the promised galleys. The support had been offered as part of a wider reinforcement: Oldtown was to provide twenty warships, and Lord Redwyne of the Arbor thirty. Those ships would have made Alyn’s fleet considerably more formidable, but the wait ended before they arrived.

The Delayed Fleet

In 133 AC, Alyn finally gave the order to sail from Oldtown without waiting longer for Lord Redwyne. On the return voyage, near the mouth of the Mander, the Redwyne fleet was at last sighted hurrying north. After breaking bread with Alyn aboard the Lady Baela, the Redwyne ships turned about. The account gives no further explanation for their delayed arrival or their decision to turn back.

Alyn’s Visit

Alyn made a brief visit to the Arbor as Lord Redwyne’s guest during the return voyage, then continued his journey. The island’s place in the narrative is therefore defined both by the military aid that had been promised but missed the outward departure and by the hospitality extended to Alyn when the fleets finally met.
