Kingswood
Fire & BloodKingswood is the route Borros Baratheon used to march north toward King’s Landing during the Moon of the Three Kings. The account places the forest within the approach of a campaign that ended the city’s period of fear of an advancing army, although the decisive confrontation described afterward took place across the Blackwater Rush.
Setting and Mention
The account locates Borros’s march through Kingswood on the route north from Storm’s End toward King’s Landing. It gives no further description of the forest, and its significance here rests on this specific use as a passage for troops.
Borros Baratheon’s March
After hearing that the queen had died, Borros left his newly pregnant wife and four daughters and advanced north through Kingswood. His force comprised six hundred knights and four thousand foot. The march brought a substantial stormlander army toward the capital, where its vanguard was later seen across the Blackwater Rush.
Role in the Campaign
For more than half a year, King’s Landing had feared the approach of Ormund Hightower’s host. Borros’s arrival altered the expected direction of the threat: instead of coming from Oldtown by way of Bitterbridge and Tumbleton, the assault came up the kingsroad from Storm’s End, with Kingswood forming part of Borros’s route. The text then shifts to the river crossing and the attempts to respond to his force; it does not describe a battle in the forest.
