Myrish Bloodbath

Fire & Blood

The Myrish Bloodbath was a violent factional struggle in Myr in 91–92 AC. Its significance extended beyond the city: after losing, one faction was driven from the Stepstones and landed on Tarth, turning Myr’s internal conflict into a threat that drew in the Crown and the Velaryon fleet.

The Struggle in Myr

Two rival factions contested supremacy in Myr. Their conflict brought assassinations, riots, poisonings, torture, hangings, and sea battles before one side prevailed. The account leaves the details of the struggle aside, but makes clear that defeat meant exile rather than a settlement between the factions.

Flight from Myr to Tarth

The losing faction first tried to establish itself on the Stepstones. The Archon of Tyrosh joined forces with a league of pirate kings and drove them away. In desperation, the displaced Myrmen then turned to Tarth. Their landing took the Evenstar by surprise, and they soon occupied the island’s entire eastern side. By this point, the defeated faction had become little more than a ragged band of pirates.

The Crown’s Response

The king and his council judged that the Myrish force would not require much effort to drive back into the sea, but its strength at sea shaped the response. Prince Aemon was chosen to lead the assault, while Corlys Velaryon was to bring the Velaryon fleet south to protect Lord Boremund Baratheon as he crossed with his stormlanders. They were to join the Evenstar’s levies, combining their forces to retake Tarth.

Corlys’s fleet sailed from Driftmark on the ninth day of the third moon of 92 AC. Prince Aemon followed a few hours later, after taking leave of Jocelyn Baratheon and their daughter, Rhaenys Targaryen, who had just learned she was expecting. The account records the planned campaign and its preparations, but does not establish its outcome.
