Naerys Targaryen
Fire & BloodNaerys Targaryen is remembered chiefly through the uncertainty surrounding her son Daeron II’s paternity. The chronicle names her as queen and mother to Daeron, but gives two possible fathers: Aegon IV or his younger brother Aemon the Dragonknight. That unresolved account places her at the center of a question about dynastic legitimacy without settling it.
Queen and Mother
Naerys appears in the account of Aegon IV’s reign as Queen Naerys. The text identifies Daeron II as her son, connecting her to the succession that followed Aegon IV. It offers no further detail about Naerys’s life or her role at court.
Disputed Parentage
The chronicle presents Daeron’s parentage as uncertain: he was the son of Queen Naerys, by either Aegon IV or Aemon the Dragonknight. Aemon is identified as Aegon’s younger brother, a celebrated champion, and, according to some, Naerys’s lover. The account does not resolve which man fathered Daeron, preserving the question rather than treating either possibility as established fact.
Place in the Succession
Daeron II’s entry in the royal sequence calls him the son of Queen Naerys and records that he brought Dorne into the realm by marrying the Dornish princess Myriah. The succession account thus gives Naerys significance through her son’s lineage and reign, while its competing possibilities for his father leave an important element of that lineage unsettled.
