Raylon Rivers

Fire & Blood

Ser Raylon Rivers was a knight and the bastard half-brother of Ser Amos Bracken. His clearest appearance comes at the close of the Battle of the Burning Mill, where command of the Bracken host passed to him after Amos’s death. Faced with the capture of Stone Hedge and the imprisonment of Lord Humfrey Bracken’s family, Raylon chose to yield, ending House Bracken’s resistance rather than risk the captives’ safety.

Identity and Position

Raylon is identified as Ser Amos Bracken’s bastard half-brother. The account gives no further details of his parentage, earlier life, or standing within House Bracken. His significance rests on the brief moment when he assumes command of its forces and must decide what to do with the family’s remaining stronghold under enemy control.

Command at the Burning Mill

The Battle of the Burning Mill inflicted heavy losses on both sides. After Ser Amos died, Raylon led the Bracken survivors as they broke from the battlefield and retreated toward their own lands. Their withdrawal did not restore their position: Stone Hedge had been taken in their absence by a force led by Prince Daemon Targaryen, whose troops included Darrys, Rootes, Pipers, and Freys.

Surrender and Consequences

At Stone Hedge, Lord Humfrey Bracken and his remaining children were captives, along with his third wife and his paramour. Rather than see them come to harm, Raylon yielded. The account presents this decision as the decisive end of House Bracken’s resistance: with the house broken and defeated, the remaining supporters of King Aegon in the riverlands lost heart and laid down their swords as well. Raylon’s role is therefore defined less by victory in battle than by the surrender that closed the Bracken campaign and helped bring the wider regional fighting to a halt.
