Volon Therys
Fire & BloodVolon Therys marks the turning point in Lysaro Rogare’s flight: at the town on the Rhoyne, he was captured while waiting for a boat, and the last of his Unsullied guards died trying to protect him. From there, he was sent downriver to Volantis and ultimately returned to Lys in chains.
Capture on the Rhoyne
Lysaro had fled Lys with one hundred Unsullied, but had been forced to sell most of them along the way. When he and the twenty guards still with him waited for a boat at Volon Therys, they were hemmed in amid fighting near the docks. The Unsullied remained loyal to the end and were killed defending him; Lysaro was taken.
From refuge to return
The capture at Volon Therys brought Lysaro’s attempt to escape to an end. He was sent downriver to Volantis, where the Triarchs offered him to his brother Drako for a price. Drako refused and suggested that Lysaro be sold back to Lys instead. He was returned there chained to an oar in the belly of a slave ship. The town thus stands in the account not as a lasting refuge, but as the point where flight became captivity and the route home became a forced return.
