Tay al-Ard cylinder

Fireblood

The Tay al-Ard cylinder is a magical transport device whose long-distance use gives Tyrus a brief escape from the Kishion, but not safety. Its arrival at a remote waterfall turns the instrument of flight into the prelude to a struggle in which Tyrus loses his grip on it and must rely on spirit magic to reach shore.

Use in Kenatos

During the confrontation in Kenatos, Tyrus withdraws the cylinder and calls for those around him to gather close and hold his arm. The device is thus used as a means of transporting a group, not merely its bearer. When the Arch-Rike vanishes and Kiranrao follows in a puff of smoke, the cylinder remains part of Tyrus’s attempt to get the others away from the Kishion.

A Difficult Arrival

The cylinder’s magic channels Tyrus and the Kishion leagues away. They arrive in a small thicket of spindly evergreens, on mossy ground slick with rain, beside a waterfall. The sudden change of setting does not end their conflict: the water’s force throws Tyrus off balance as the two struggle beneath the surface, and he loses his grip on the cylinder.

Separation and Aftermath

Without the cylinder in hand, Tyrus has to escape the water by another means. He touches a jewel on his ring, whose spirit magic propels him upward, then uses the ring’s power to draw himself toward the muddy bank. The passage leaves the cylinder behind while Tyrus faces the Kishion and the Fear Liath’s influence; hoping to put a stone barrier between himself and his pursuer, he sets out for Drosta’s lair. The device’s role therefore changes sharply: it provides the means of escape from Kenatos, but its destination leaves Tyrus isolated from it and still in danger.
