Bar Caribe

Gente que viene y ¡Bah!

Bar Caribe is where Bea and Débora meet Teodoro, the father of Débora’s child. In this brief encounter, the bar serves as a public setting for an uneasy personal conversation: Débora leaves before it is resolved, and Bea is left to respond to Teodoro’s frustration with her sister.

Setting and Arrival

Bea and Débora are on their way to Bar Caribe for a meeting with Teodoro. They worry that he may have changed his mind and failed to come, or that he may already have put on the T-shirt they expect him to wear. Their concern about arriving late gives the meeting a hurried start.

They run into the bar and find Teodoro at the counter, drinking a beer while perched on a stool. Bea makes a joke about whether the alcohol will affect him sooner there; Débora tells her to be quiet. The exchange establishes Bea’s teasing presence beside her sister, even as the meeting carries an awkwardness of its own.

The Meeting with Teodoro

Teodoro orders beers with an ease that makes him seem familiar with the bartender. Bea wonders whether he might have danced naked for her at a hen party, but this remains her speculation, not an established fact. Débora does not join Bea in the toast to the bartender’s health.

Bea asks Teodoro whether he is wearing the T-shirt underneath his shirt. He unbuttons a couple of buttons to reveal part of it, and Bea admires his performance. The moment gives the encounter a playful beat, but it does not remove the tension between Teodoro and Débora.

Departure and Aftermath

Débora leaves Bar Caribe after the meeting. Bea is unsure what to say, and Teodoro breaks the silence by complaining that he cannot stand the mother of his child. Bea answers by asking him to give Débora time, since the situation is overwhelming for her. The bar thus becomes the place where Débora’s brief departure leaves Bea between the two of them, attempting to temper Teodoro’s resentment without claiming that the conflict has been settled.
