McCall Home Attack and Defense

Holding Out for a Hero ▸ Stiles Stilinski (2)

McCall House Attack is a coordinated supernatural assault that turns the McCall house into a contested refuge. Derek Hale arrives with Boyd, Erica Reyes, and Isaac Lahey to take Lydia Martin, while Carson Bradley, Stiles Stilinski, and Allison Argent attempt to protect Lydia and survive the breach. The decisive reversal comes through Allison's crossbow: after coating an arrowhead with Kanima venom, she allows Erica to catch it, causing the venom to paralyze Erica and giving the defenders a temporary advantage over Derek's pack.

Causes and Background

The attack develops within the broader conflict surrounding Lydia Martin and the Kanima. Carson, Allison, and Stiles are already watching the McCall house when Carson notices Derek Hale across the street, staring up at the building with his companions. The group initially appears incomplete from the defenders' vantage point: Carson identifies Derek, Erica, and Boyd, while Isaac is absent from the street. That absence becomes significant because Isaac has already entered the house by another route, turning the apparent exterior threat into an assault from within.

The defenders understand that Lydia is the real objective. Allison explicitly tells Carson that Derek's group will not kill Stiles because he is the sheriff's son; instead, they want Lydia. This recognition creates the event's central tactical dilemma. Carson wants to remain with Stiles while Isaac attacks him, but Allison insists that Lydia must be moved first because she is the person most directly endangered. The house therefore becomes not merely a place of combat but a space in which the defenders must constantly choose between protecting one another and preserving the person who has become the pack's target.

The Assault on the House

Carson pulls the curtain back for another check and sees Derek's group outside. She immediately urges Allison to contact Scott McCall, identifying the approaching werewolves as Derek, Erica, and Boyd. Before the defenders can fully organize, Isaac appears inside the house and throws Carson to the floor. He grabs Allison's arm, forces her and the crossbow downward, and then shoves Stiles into the adjoining room when Stiles runs at him. Stiles falls against the floor and knocks over a lamp, but continues scrambling away as Isaac advances.

The attack forces Carson and Allison to act under pressure. Allison sends Lydia away, and Lydia runs while Allison drags Carson down the hall into another room. Allison locks the door and secures its chain, but the barrier is fragile: the door has only just been closed when the defenders notice that the window is propped open and clear ooze is dripping from its sill. The ooze recalls the material found at the auto shop and confirms that the Kanima is nearby. Carson calls out to Stiles that it is there, adding a second danger to the werewolf assault: the house is threatened simultaneously by Derek's pack and by the venomous creature they are trying to locate and contain.

The scene's movement from street to interior to window makes the house feel penetrable from every direction. Derek's group can approach openly, Isaac can enter unseen, and the Kanima can leave its trace without immediately revealing itself. The defenders cannot rely on walls, locked doors, or a single line of sight. Their survival depends instead on recognizing the attackers' methods and using the evidence of the Kanima's presence as a weapon.

Allison's Counterattack

Allison develops the defensive strategy. She removes an arrow from her crossbow, dips its head into the Kanima's ooze, and coats it completely before replacing it in the weapon. The improvised ammunition transforms the creature's venom from an abstract threat into a usable countermeasure. Allison presents the prepared crossbow to Carson as their secret weapon, converting the residue left at the window into a trap for one of Derek's werewolves.

Erica then forces the door open, ripping the chain from its screws, and confronts the two girls. Allison aims the crossbow at Erica, placing a red targeting dot on her shirt. Erica attempts psychological provocation rather than simply attacking. She says she has considered stealing somebody's boyfriend and suggests that she might pursue Stiles or Scott McCall instead of Allison's relationship, using Carson and Allison's romantic attachments as points of pressure. The taunt succeeds in angering Allison, who fires.

Erica bends backward and catches the arrow in her hand, apparently defeating the attack. The maneuver becomes the turning point. Because the arrowhead is coated with Kanima venom, catching it exposes Erica directly to the substance. Her hand begins to shake, and within seconds she gasps, her knees buckle, and she falls to the floor. The apparent failure of the shot is therefore a trap: Erica's confidence makes her complete the delivery mechanism herself, allowing Allison and Carson to exploit the werewolf's assumption that the projectile is harmless.

The outcome illustrates a recurring rule of the supernatural conflict: knowledge can matter as much as physical strength. Erica can catch an ordinary arrow, but she cannot simply overpower a weapon whose danger comes from the venom on its surface. Allison's preparation, Carson's recognition of the ooze, and their willingness to let Erica believe she has won combine to reverse the power balance inside the room.

Consequences and Aftermath

Erica's paralysis gives Carson and Allison a short-lived defensive victory, but it does not erase the larger threat. Stiles remains exposed elsewhere in the house, Lydia has had to flee, Isaac has already breached the interior, and Derek's pack remains nearby. The event therefore ends in tactical success rather than complete resolution. The defenders have stopped one attacker, yet the assault has demonstrated how quickly the McCall house can be infiltrated and how vulnerable Lydia's protectors are when the enemy attacks through several routes at once.

The incident also clarifies the relationships among the participants. Allison's defense of Carson and Lydia shows her moving beyond conventional hunter equipment and into adaptive supernatural strategy. Carson serves as an observer and interpreter, identifying Derek's presence and recognizing the significance of the ooze, while Stiles acts as the immediate physical target whose danger sharpens the group's priorities. Lydia's escape is treated as the most urgent objective because the defenders understand that the attackers' purpose is capture rather than indiscriminate violence against everyone in the house.

The house attack consequently becomes a compact model of the season's wider conflict. The werewolf pack relies on numbers, intimidation, and forced entry; the defenders answer with surveillance, rapid identification, improvised weapons, and cooperation across rival supernatural factions. The reversal is not a final defeat of Derek Hale's group, but it proves that the pack's advantages are not absolute. In the McCall house, the attackers' own confidence—and Erica's decision to catch the arrow—creates the opening through which the defenders fight back.
