A Father's Distance

A Father's Distance A difficult inheritance Malphas grows up resenting Jaden, who leaves him with a priestess and treats him harshly for the circumstances of his birth. Malphas believes his father has never wanted him. The wound behind the anger That history makes later acts of protection difficult for Malphas to accept. He has learned to read authority as rejection, so even a loving motive cannot erase the damage of their past.

A Hidden Bride

A Hidden Bride A life preserved Jaden places Lilliana in an enchanted sleep after the attack. He knows she has received immortality and believes her enemies would still find ways to hurt or kill her. A choice made for her By concealing her survival, Jaden protects her while taking away her ability to decide whether to awaken. His action preserves the possibility of reunion but creates a long separation neither spouse chose.

Silence Through Centuries

Silence Through Centuries A secret maintained Jaden does not tell Malphas that Lilliana is alive. He believes Malphas must remain focused while still entangled with the Malachai forces, and fears the enemies might exploit her existence. Protection becomes injury The secret denies Malphas the chance to hope or to grieve with the truth. Jaden's caution may have reduced immediate danger, but it also prolongs his son's suffering.

An Apology at Last

An Apology at Last The reason revealed Jaden tells Malphas that he hid Lilliana because the Malachai forces would have used her against him. He admits that Malphas has reason to hate him and that forgiveness is not owed. The limits of defense Malphas understands the danger Jaden describes but challenges the centuries of silence. Their exchange does not repair the relationship completely; it gives the secrecy a motive while leaving its cost acknowledged.

The Reunion Enabled

The Reunion Enabled A final intervention Jaden brings Malphas and Lilliana together in New Orleans and asks them not to let anyone divide them again. His role shifts from hidden guardian to witness of their reunion. No simple absolution Malphas still says he hates his father, even as gratitude and love complicate his anger. Jaden's act makes reunion possible without erasing the consequences of his long deception.
