A Chosen Wedding Date

A Chosen Wedding Date
Renewal desired
Lilliana chooses the solstice for the wedding because it marks a new year and new beginnings. Malphas dislikes the long night and the danger associated with it but agrees for her sake.
Hope beside foreboding
The couple's different reactions establish solstice as both a promise of renewal and a source of apprehension. Malphas recognizes that his old world treats the night as an opportunity for harm.
A Night of Revelry

A Night of Revelry
A human celebration
The village celebrates through music, dancing, food, and the Lord of Misrule. Malphas finds the customs strange but stays close to Lilliana and gradually accepts the happiness surrounding them.
A vulnerable gathering
The crowd assembles in a temple during a night Malphas considers dangerous. Its warmth and disorder make the later attack feel like a violation of a community that believed it was celebrating safely.
The Demon Arrives

The Demon Arrives
Violence through the doors
A Malachai demon bursts into the temple and fires through the room. Malphas moves between the attacker and the people he has come to regard as family.
Danger answered
He reveals his powers and fights the demon before the crowd can be destroyed. The danger of the night becomes unmistakable, but his actions also show that he now uses his strength on the villagers' behalf.
A Solstice Warning

A Solstice Warning
The veil grows thin
At another solstice gathering, Malphas sees a shadow and hears a voice that seems to come from the Mavromino. The timing intensifies his fear because he believes the night makes crossings more dangerous.
A threat detected
He runs to Lilliana, and Myone and Xevikan join the search. The encounter turns a seasonal fear into an immediate security problem and prompts plans to move the couple.
The Celebration Ends

The Celebration Ends
Flight from the gathering
The threat at the solstice leads to a retreat to Katoteros. Lilliana accepts leaving their home, believing that life together matters more than the place they leave behind.
A false resolution
The move seems to answer the immediate danger but does not end the enemy's pursuit. A later diversion leaves the settlement exposed, showing that escape from one night cannot resolve the underlying war.
