Azmodea

Last Christmas

Azmodea is a hell realm in the far south, a place where the sun is not allowed to shine and where Malphas once lived. Its importance lies both in the rejection that sent him there and in the memory it leaves behind: later, a jubilant human crowd recalls the court at Azmodea strongly enough to make him fear what revelry might precede.

Setting and Character of the Realm

Malphas locates Azmodea in the south, then clarifies that it lies in the far south. It is a hell realm without sunlight. The account supplies no further description of its geography or society, but links the realm to a court whose celebrations could carry an ominous edge: its revelers seemed to be drinking and dancing as if slaughter would follow at dawn.

Malphas’s Former Home

Azmodea was where Malphas’s mother left him after realizing that his father would have nothing to do with a half-demon son. The place is therefore bound to his origins and to his parents’ rejection, rather than presented as a home he longs to recover. When Ophelos asks about his former home, Malphas says he will never wish himself back there.

A Memory That Shapes His Response

At a gathering among humans, the crowd’s laughter, dancing, and drinking remind Malphas of the court at Azmodea. The resemblance is not merely social: he associates that court’s revelry with the prospect of a slaughter come dawn. While the humans appear jubilant, the remembered pattern makes him apprehensive; he reaches for Lilliana to keep her close and ensure her safety. Azmodea thus functions as a measure of danger in his memory, turning celebration into a warning without establishing that the human gathering itself is a prelude to violence.
