“Excuse all the blood”
Lords of Chaos“Excuse all the blood” is the final expression in Dead’s succinct suicide note. Written after his death on 8 April at age 21, in a house on Sørumveien Road in Kråkstad, it turns the note’s closing words into a compact act of dark irony.
Context
Dead had imagined concerts for his native Sweden, but those performances never took place. The book places the note at the end of those unrealized plans and records that the ammunition used in his death had been given to him by Varg Vikernes the previous Christmas as a friendly gift.
Tone and Function
The account describes the note’s final scrawl as an instance of Schadenfreude and sets it against the allegation that Dead was humorless. Its brevity gives the expression its force: the note ends not with an explanation, but with a sardonic acknowledgment of the scene left behind. The book quotes the closing words as “Excuse all the blood.”
