Electrical cord

Lords of Chaos

The Electrical cord becomes the instrument of Sandro Beyer’s killing after he is lured to a bungalow in the woods. First used to restrain him, it is then tightened around his neck by Andreas and Sebastian Schauscheill; the object’s repeated use marks the passage from abduction and attempted control to murder.

Use in the Bungalow

At approximately 8:30 on the evening of April 29, Hendrik, Andreas, Sebastian Schauscheill, and Sandro entered the bungalow belonging to Hendrik’s father. The youths initially invited Sandro to sit, as if they were about to discuss the important matter they had used to persuade him to come. When Sandro said, “It’s getting to be too much for me,” and prepared to leave, Andreas grabbed the Electrical cord and wrapped it around his neck. Sandro struggled and tried to scream for help; Hendrik is alleged to have cut him with a knife, and the youths tied his hands behind his back.

The Fatal Reuse

Sandro begged to be released, offering his life savings of 500 German Marks and promising not to speak about what had happened. The youths considered leaving him in the woods, but feared he would tell others about the abduction, particularly after being wounded. When Sandro began screaming and struggling again, they used a piece of the Electrical cord a second time: Andreas and Sebastian Schauscheill threw it around his neck and pulled from both sides, holding it taut until they were certain his heart had stopped.

Role in the Account

The cord’s significance lies in its concrete recurrence within the sequence of violence. It first appears as a means of restraint, but the later tightening makes it the direct instrument of death. Afterward, the youths hid Sandro’s body in a dilapidated shed by a creek; on May 1, they returned, wrapped the corpse in a blanket, and buried it in a nearby excavation pit. The cord does not itself explain their choices, but its repeated use gives the account a stark material through-line from the attempted silencing of a captive to the killing that the youths then tried to conceal.
