Walt Disney World
Lords of ChaosWalt Disney World enters the account as the destination of a planned mass attack that authorities interrupted before the group reached the park. Its role is defined by the contrast between a public theme park and the violence the Lords of Chaos intended to carry out there.
The Planned Attack
The group chose graduation night for what they called their ultimate crime of chaos. Their plan was to enter the park, steal life-sized cartoon character costumes, and use the disguises to move around while randomly shooting Black tourists with handguns equipped with silencers. The group had not yet reached the park: according to Sheriff Larry King, its members were caught at a Hardee’s while attempting an armed robbery to raise money for the trip.
Security and Interruption
The plan depended on getting into the park and moving through it without attracting attention. Fort Myers Sheriff John McDougall doubted that it would have proceeded smoothly because of the park’s strict security, but said the group might have responded violently if anyone tried to stop them. The attack remained an unrealized plan; the authorities’ intervention prevented the proposed violence at Walt Disney World.
Narrative Significance
The park’s place in the episode rests on the scale and setting of the intended attack, rather than on any crime occurring there. A graduation-night outing was recast by the group as a stage for targeted murder, with stolen character costumes meant to conceal the attackers in a family-oriented public space. The episode also shows that the group’s plans extended beyond the crimes that had already brought it to investigators’ attention.
