The Cost of Revenge
Man on FireThis thread follows vengeance as it begins as an answer to Pinta’s death, escalates into a campaign against a system and exacts a moral and physical price.

Justice Seen as Inadequate

A Private Standard of Justice
Distrust of the courts
Creasy believes the kidnappers would receive limited sentences and comfortable treatment if prosecuted. He sees the justice system as compromised and unable to match the crime’s cruelty.
A different objective
Rather than gather evidence, he plans to kill those responsible. His choice transforms grief into a conflict between public law and private punishment.
Retaliation Begins

The First Answer
Capturing the collector
Creasy abducts Giorgio Rabbia and extracts the account of Pinta’s abduction through torture. Rabbia’s confession identifies the abuse and names other participants.
Violence becomes method
Creasy kills Rabbia after obtaining information. The attack is not a court process or a warning; it establishes that the campaign will combine interrogation, punishment and execution.
The Campaign Escalates

A Wider War
Different targets and methods
Creasy kills Sandri and Fossella, then attacks Conti with an antitank rocket. Each operation reaches a more powerful figure and uses a different method.
The organization responds
The killings are initially mistaken for a dispute with the Union Corse. As the pattern becomes clear, security increases and the Mafia’s fear begins to disturb its internal balance.
The Law’s Compromise

Enforcement Under Pressure
A policeman’s conflict
Satta understands that Creasy is a murderer, yet he also sees the damage the campaign is doing to an organization that the state has failed to contain. His conflict is one of legal propriety, not simple sympathy.
Deliberate restraint
He retains control of the case but does not move immediately to stop Creasy. The choice raises the cost of the revenge campaign beyond its victims: institutions bend in response to the opportunity it creates.
The Final Reckoning

Punishment Reaches the Top
Cantarella’s death
Creasy attacks the final stronghold and forces Cantarella to die by choking, echoing Pinta’s death. Revenge reaches its symbolic target but cannot restore the child.
The price of completion
The guards shoot Creasy, and his own campaign leaves him mortally wounded. The violence ends the organization’s central leadership but also consumes the avenger who believed he could survive long enough to finish the work.
