Hannah Wilkins and Randy Whitehead Jr.'s Relationship

Missing You

Hannah Wilkins and Randy Whitehead Jr.'s relationship is a romance turned inside out by hidden surveillance: Hannah believes in and loves Randy, while he secretly films her and other girls. Her eventual decision to press charges marks a decisive break with that trust and gives her a part in holding him accountable.

The Relationship and Its Unequal Knowledge

Hannah is fifteen and Randy is her boyfriend, whom she regards as precious. After Randy is jailed, Rob Wilkins says that Hannah hates him and is not fond of Chick, who is babysitting her while they wait for her mother to pick her up. Her anger reflects the gulf between what she believes about Randy and what Rob and Jessica Mastriani know about him.

That gulf is not simply a disagreement about Randy's character. In his apartment, a section of wall has been cut away to conceal a camera aimed through a two-way mirror. The discovery turns an apparently ordinary bedroom fixture into part of a hidden recording setup. Tapes found on a closet shelf are neatly labeled with girls' names, and there are multiple copies of each. Hannah's name appears on three tapes: one Jessica has seen and two more that Jessica brings to her.

Discovery and Denial

When Jessica asks whether Rob has told Hannah about the videos, Rob says Hannah does not believe him. She thinks he is inventing the story to make Randy look bad, because she cannot imagine her boyfriend doing such a thing. Her defense of Randy persists even after his arrest; affection has shaped what she is prepared to accept as true.

The recordings also make the betrayal concrete. The camera was hidden in the wall and pointed into the bedroom, while the tapes were kept out of sight on a high closet shelf beneath piles of men's shoes. Their labels and duplicates raise the possibility that they were not merely kept for private use but might have been intended for distribution. The evidence implicates Randy in a scheme involving Hannah and other girls, but the early disclosure does not immediately undo her loyalty to him.

The Tapes and Hannah's Decision

Jessica asks Hannah to help keep Randy in jail by allowing the tapes to go to the police and agreeing to testify. She warns that if he gets away with it, he could do the same thing to someone else, perhaps someone even younger. Jessica expects Hannah to respond with anger: Hannah has already treated her as an enemy for taking her away from the man she loves, and now Jessica is asking her to help secure his prosecution.

Instead, Hannah looks down at a tape and quietly asks whether Rob saw it. Jessica tells her that he did not; she was the only one who had watched it. Hannah then asks about the other copies. When Jessica produces the two additional tapes bearing Hannah's name, Hannah takes them from her. Their fingers brush, and Hannah thanks Jessica. Her response is restrained, but the set of her mouth suggests that she has reached a decision.

Hannah agrees to press charges. Jessica tells her that Rob or her mother can take her to the police station, and Hannah says she will go. She also apologizes. The moment does not erase her earlier love for Randy or the pain of discovering what he has done; it shows her acting despite those attachments rather than continuing to shield him from the evidence.

Consequences and Significance

Randy is already in jail when Jessica speaks with Hannah, but Jessica makes clear that Hannah's cooperation matters to keeping him there. Testimony and the release of the tapes could help prevent him from evading consequences and targeting someone else. The relationship therefore becomes part of the case's stakes: Hannah's trust first enables her denial, then makes her choice to cooperate a difficult, consequential reversal.

The contrast is sharpened by the recordings themselves. Randy's hidden camera and labeled copies reduce intimate access to something he controls and preserves without the girls' knowledge; Hannah's decision to hand over her tapes redirects that evidence toward the police. The story does not establish the eventual outcome of her testimony in these scenes. It does establish the change in her position: the girl who believed Rob was lying takes the copies bearing her name, chooses to press charges, and begins to withdraw her loyalty from Randy.
