The Flight Begins

The Flight Begins
Survival Without a Supply
The Gray Men leave Nowhere House and hurry toward their hidden store. They know that without new time their cigars will eventually burn out and they will cease to exist.
Their flight is driven by the same dependence that has sustained their power. Once the flow of time is interrupted, their apparent authority becomes a race against extinction.
Cigars Become Currency

Cigars Become Currency
Cooperation Disintegrates
Agents with spare cigars hide them from others, while the desperate try to steal the remaining supplies. Some lose their cigars in the struggle and disappear immediately.
The scarcity exposes the thinness of their solidarity. They have treated other people as sources of time, and under threat they treat one another in exactly the same way.
The Store Reached

The Store Reached
Survivors Seek Shelter
A shrinking band of agents reaches the underground chamber containing the Time Warehouse. They gather by a steel door that remains open and debate how long their reserves will last.
Their attempt to preserve themselves repeats the bank's logic of calculation and rationing. They see their own numbers as an expendable resource, just as they have treated human lives as deposits.
The Last Six

The Last Six
A Self-Destructive Calculation
The Gray Men toss a coin and eliminate members in successive rounds to reduce their consumption. Only six remain, but their thinning ranks weaken their ability to keep the hour-lilies frozen.
The policy meant to extend their survival accelerates their danger. A culture organized around sacrificing others finally turns its calculations inward.
The Final Disappearance

The Final Disappearance
Time Runs Out
The Gray Men fight over Momo's hour-lily as their cigars burn down. One agent loses his cigar, and the last begs Momo for the flower before vanishing.
The final disappearance comes when stolen time can no longer sustain them. The threat ends not through negotiation but through the collapse of the dependency on which their existence was built.
