Frostmaw Titans
New Life as a Max Level ArchmageFrostmaw Titans are elephant-dwarfing, polar-bear-like monsters of the Hoarfrost Plains, feared for their immense physical presence and prized for the many useful materials in their bodies. They occupy an unusual position in the world of The Seven Cataclysms: dangerous enough to overwhelm a hunter who misjudges them, yet familiar enough as a target that their pelts became a standard goal for adventurers seeking powerful equipment. Vivi’s hunt makes both sides visible—the spectacle and threat of confronting a Titan, and the practical value of bringing one down intact.
Identity and Scale
Frostmaw Titans are described as polar-bear beasts twice the size of an elephant. Their great mass is matched by long black claws, a powerful roar, and paws capable of driving into the snow to brace against an opponent. In close quarters, their size turns even a single lunge into an imposing assault: one Titan’s twenty-foot-tall bulk pressed its slavering jaws against Vivi’s Prismatic Barrier while its claws scraped at the shield.
The encounter is rendered through the details of contact as much as scale. The claws sent rainbow sparks across the invisible barrier; the beast’s roar brought hot air against Vivi’s face, and its movement churned the snow beneath its paws. These sensations make the creature more than a distant target or a statistic. Even behind a defense that held, Vivi found the experience more terrifying than exciting, registering the difference between knowing a monster as game content and confronting its apparent physical force.
Reputation as Hunting Quarry
In the early days of The Seven Cataclysms, hunting Frostmaw Titans was one of the best mid-game methods of earning money. The pelts could be made into an armor set whose strength was surprisingly high for its level. Rogues and even some tank classes around level seven hundred wanted the set, making the Titans valuable not only as monsters to defeat but as a dependable source of sought-after equipment.
That reputation also shaped Vivi’s choice of prey. Her own level was far above seven hundred, but she wanted to remain relatively inconspicuous and doubted that the Adventurer’s Guild could compensate her properly for some of the highest-tier monster parts she might collect. Hunting Titans offered a middle ground: a valuable, recognizable quarry without forcing her to rely on the Guild for the full worth of rarer materials. The Hoarfrost Plains also carried a personal appeal for her as a nostalgic hunting destination.
Vivi’s Hunt
Vivi approached a pack of Titans across the packed snow, considering how to kill them without destroying what she had come to harvest. Her level-1800 spell, Kaelum’s Thousand-Year Pyre, could devastate a quarter mile of terrain in every direction; using it would defeat the purpose by vaporizing both the prey and its valuable parts. The practical requirement of a clean, efficient kill therefore opposed her taste for the explosive spectacle of mage abilities. She had to hunt for usable materials, not simply unleash the most destructive magic available to her.
The encounter confirmed that restraint was necessary. One Titan slid and shoved against her Prismatic Barrier, scraping its claws along the shield as it tried to force its way through. Vivi cast Earthen Anchor, and vines burst from the ground to seize the rampaging beast. It struck the snow hard enough to throw it up around them, but the restraints held against its struggles. Two other Titans were also secured to the ground for later, while another had already been killed by a super-charged fireball.
That kill exposed the cost of choosing spectacle over preservation. The explosion left viscera, flesh, and bone scattered across the snow, and Vivi turned her head away from the mess. She was not wholly squeamish, but the gore—and especially its smell—made the drawbacks of realistic combat unmistakable. Against creatures whose value depended on intact pelts and harvestable parts, overwhelming force could be a poor hunting tool even when it was an easy way to win.
Materials and Significance
The harvest from a deceased Frostmaw Titan demonstrates why hunters sought the species. Its listed loot included two Frostmaw Fangs, eight Titan Bear Claws, a Primal Ice Core, a pristine pelt, thirty-eight pieces of meat, and an Arctic Essence Gland. The pelt could be obtained through skinning, while the meat required butchering; the menu’s separate harvesting labels make clear that a kill could yield several different kinds of material rather than a single trophy.
When Vivi brought her haul to an appraiser, he recognized the claws and asked whether she had been hunting Frostmaw Titans specifically in the Hoarfrost Plains. Looking over the quantity of fangs and claws she had laid out, he said he could not recall seeing so many together before. His reaction gives the hunt an economic scale beyond Vivi’s own assessment: even a familiar quarry could produce an exceptional display of collected parts.
The Titans’ narrative role rests on this double identity. They are imposing animals whose size, claws, and physical attacks make them frightening at close range; they are also a resource whose pelt, meat, core, and alchemical gland can be gathered and valued. Vivi’s hunt joins those perspectives. Her nostalgia and appetite for dramatic magic meet the practical limits of harvesting, while the intact materials and the appraiser’s surprise show why a careful hunt could be worth more than spectacular destruction.
