Petra
New Life as a Max Level ArchmagePetra is one of the former Vanguard associates whom Vivisari Vexaria seeks to contact after Vanguard’s return. Her importance lies less in a present action than in the life she has established away from the organization: she resides in the Eastern Kingdom and runs a remarkably successful restaurant that attracts nobles from across the Kingdoms. Because she is described as satisfied with that life, Petra represents the difficulty of rebuilding an old collective without assuming that its former members still belong to it.
Life Beyond Vanguard
Petra’s current identity is defined by prosperity and autonomy. Her restaurant is successful enough to draw nobles from distant regions, turning her into a figure with an established social and economic position outside Vanguard’s former network. The detail distinguishes her from someone merely lost or waiting to be found; she has created a functioning life whose value does not depend on the organization’s restoration.
Her contentment also gives her possible return a different emotional and practical character. Vivisari Vexaria is unsure how Petra will receive the news that Vanguard has returned, because the announcement may be welcome, disruptive, or simply irrelevant to someone who has found satisfaction elsewhere. Petra’s distance therefore becomes meaningful: it is not only geographical separation in the Eastern Kingdom, but separation from the priorities that once connected the former members of Vanguard.
The Proposed Contact
Vivisari Vexaria identifies Petra as one of the easier former associates to contact, at least in contrast with members whose whereabouts are obscure or whose withdrawal was deliberate. Yet ease of contact does not imply ease of reunion. Petra’s successful restaurant makes her location and public life comparatively accessible, while her satisfaction makes her decision impossible to predict.
Vivisari Vexaria explicitly refuses to uproot Petra’s life. Instead, she proposes extending an invitation to speak, leaving Petra free to decide whether Vanguard’s return merits her attention. This approach frames the contact as an offer rather than a summons and preserves Petra’s agency even as Vivisari Vexaria attempts to reconstruct an old organization.
Distance, Travel, and Warp Anchors
The Eastern Kingdom places Petra at a substantial distance from Vivisari Vexaria’s immediate sphere of activity. Vivisari Vexaria considers traveling across the Kingdoms to see Petra personally, recognizing that the journey would be an annoying chore but also connecting the trip to a broader practical objective: spreading Warp Anchors. Petra’s possible recruitment is thus folded into the logistical expansion of Vivisari Vexaria’s movements and infrastructure.
That combination of personal invitation and system-building captures Petra’s position in the restored Vanguard. She is neither treated as a resource to be collected nor forgotten because she has moved on. Her location makes her reachable, her success makes her independent, and Vivisari Vexaria’s proposed method of contact acknowledges that restoration must accommodate the lives its former members built during Vanguard’s absence.
Narrative Function
Petra’s brief appearance in the reconstruction discussion expands the meaning of Vanguard’s return beyond institutional revival. The organization may have a history that binds its former members together, but that history does not erase intervening change. Petra’s restaurant, clientele, and satisfaction provide a concrete counterweight to nostalgia: the past can call, but it cannot automatically reclaim the person who left it.
Her unresolved response also preserves a small but consequential uncertainty in the larger restoration effort. Vivisari Vexaria can extend an invitation and perhaps make the journey, but Petra alone can determine whether her successful life in the Eastern Kingdom will intersect again with Vanguard. The character therefore embodies voluntary affiliation and the limits of restoration by command.
