Vanguard Guildhall

New Life as a Max Level Archmage

Vanguard Guildhall is the preserved headquarters of Vanguard, the small but historically immense guild that once shepherded the world through the Seven Cataclysms. Closed for a century and remembered as a landmark, it is reopened by Vivisari Vexaria and Rafael, turning a relic of the past into the operational center of Vanguard’s restoration and the material proof that the legendary organization has returned.

Setting and Historical Identity

Vanguard Guildhall stands in Meridian’s Adventurer’s District, a cordoned-off area where the city contains the activity of the many guilds and adventurers gathered there. The short journey from the district’s streets to the hall takes only a few minutes, but the building carries a weight far beyond its size. Mithril and orichalcum badges are common in the surrounding district, while the guildhall itself has become a tourist destination. A thick rope keeps visitors away from its entrance, and a commemorative plaque identifies the historical landmark that people have stopped to admire.

The hall’s reputation derives from Vanguard’s role in the world’s history. Vanguard was the organization associated with the Party of Heroes, whose victory over the seventh and final Cataclysm came at the cost of all but the Sorceress perishing in the battle. A century later, the city’s Peace Day celebrations mark the hundred years since the world was freed from those disasters. The guildhall therefore exists at the intersection of public memory and private history: to Meridian’s visitors it is an almost sacred monument, while to Vivisari Vexaria it is the former home of a guild she knew as a player and of friends whose absence makes its survival unsettling.

The building also preserves the game’s structural logic through the System. Guilds in Seven Cataclysms could expand internally when their tier increased without requiring a larger exterior building or plot of land. Vanguard Guildhall retains that impossible spatial arrangement: it is bigger inside than out, not because of Vivisari Vexaria’s personal wards, but because the guild system itself has translated into reality. The result makes the hall both a functioning architectural space and a visible remnant of the world’s former game-like rules.

Reopening After a Century

Vivisari Vexaria reaches the hall with Rafael, concealing both of them through Invisibility because Rafael is recognizable as the Chief Guildmaster of the Adventurer’s Guild and Vivisari Vexaria’s own face, despite being poorly represented in popular memory, is associated with the Sorceress. At the entrance, Vivisari Vexaria casts an illusion to prevent the crowd from seeing the door open. Rafael raises an eyebrow in silent question, she pulls the handle, and the guildhall yields.

The act is momentous because the building has been closed for a hundred years. Rafael’s reaction reveals that reopening it is not merely an act of access but a return to a lost life. He draws breath in, and the old steward’s reverence makes clear that he had expected the hall might never be entered again. Vivisari Vexaria feels excitement as well, although her response differs from Rafael’s: the century has not passed for her in the same way, and the hall’s reality produces the surreal disconnection of stepping into a place previously known only through virtual experience.

A short foyer opens into the common room. Vanguard had been a small, private group composed of Vivisari Vexaria and her friends, and its members had designed the interior accordingly. Despite the group’s influence and the fact that all five members had been among the strongest players of Seven Cataclysms, the hall was meant to be small and comfortable rather than grand. Its preserved interior reflects that choice. Magical maintenance has prevented dust, decaying wood, and the stale smell expected after a century of abandonment. Comfortable chairs surround a fireplace, and the Vanguard insignia, a torch burning with gold fire, hangs above the mantel. The immaculate room makes time feel interrupted rather than completed.

The Restoration Quest and Guild Reset

The hall’s return is immediately connected to a Mythic Quest posted on its notice board: The Restoration of Vanguard, Stage One. The quest describes a guild that once guided the world through seven earth-rending Cataclysms, then lay dormant for nearly a hundred years while its treasures were lost. Its wording distinguishes between what cannot be reclaimed and what can still be forged anew, presenting Vanguard’s restoration as both recovery and reconstruction. The quest also warns that nightmares remain and that future danger may still be waiting, making the guild’s return a response to continuing threat rather than a purely commemorative act.

The hall is not restored to its former condition when Vivisari Vexaria first enters. The guild’s tier has reverted to zero, the Craftsmen’s Quarters are locked, and the vault door remains inaccessible. Rafael’s records have vanished, and the registration documents show that Vivisari Vexaria is still the guildmaster while Rafael remains the steward, but every other member has been removed from the formal records. The guild has therefore not been erased so much as restricted: its structure remains, yet its membership, functions, and resources have been reduced almost to their beginning.

Rafael identifies the practical condition clearly. Vanguard’s first restoration stage can be completed by inducting Miraelle, and he moves to turn the discovery into an immediate objective. The induction takes place through the guild charter in his office. The form asks whether Miraelle will return solely as a craftsman or also as an adventurer, and Vivisari Vexaria confirms that she is welcome to choose both roles. Miraelle signs after hesitating, and Vivisari Vexaria then signs as well, confronting the strange question of whether the anti-forgery enchantment will recognize her handwriting as that of the Sorceress.

The System accepts Vivisari Vexaria’s signature. The quest paper ignites in golden fire, filling the office with heat and brilliant light before disappearing without ash or scorch marks. The effect confirms completion of the first stage. Vanguard becomes a tier-one guild, the Craftsmen’s Quarters become accessible, and at least part of the vault is restored. The hall thus responds to renewed membership through a ritual that is simultaneously bureaucratic, magical, and game-like: a signature validates identity, a quest is consumed, and the building’s dormant functions return.

Craftsmen’s Quarters and the Vault

The reopening of the Craftsmen’s Quarters immediately produces a contrast between institutional restoration and personal priorities. Miraelle rushes into her recovered laboratory before anyone can say more. The room is a sterile facility filled with shining metal tools, devices, and equipment, many of which Vivisari Vexaria cannot even name. Glassware and drawers of alchemical reagents have been preserved through the century, and Miraelle moves among them with open delight. Her enthusiasm is so complete that Jasper complains when she chooses the laboratory over the prospect of a level-two-thousand unbound artifact from a dead Cataclysm.

The laboratory also reestablishes Vanguard’s original relationship with crafting. In Seven Cataclysms, craftsmen automated processes and improved final results, while the game simplified complex production so players could spend resources and return quickly to adventuring. In reality, the restored quarters preserve the tools and infrastructure of that system, but the space is no longer merely a convenience attached to a game. It becomes a functioning part of Vanguard’s renewed capacity, linking Miraelle’s expertise to the guild’s future operations.

The vault presents a more complicated restoration. Before the guild reaches tier one, its thick metal door remains in place but cannot be opened, even though the vault has not been erased. Once the quest is complete, the door swings open. Inside is a large, brightly lit room with silver walls, shelves, boxes, cabinets, stands, and many other containers. The space holds the accumulated materials of the strongest adventuring party in history, and its abundance momentarily overwhelms Vivisari Vexaria as she tries to identify the objects around her.

The contents also reveal the limits of the restoration. The vault has not returned every treasure associated with Vanguard. There are no artifacts, pieces of gear, or consumables. Instead, the recovered portion consists of crafting materials: midnight-black pelts, a massive golden scale, and jars of shimmering blue-and-green fluid among them. The first restoration stage restores access to a subset of Vanguard’s resources rather than reviving its former wealth in full. The partial return reinforces the quest’s distinction between what has been lost and what can still be forged anew.

Reassembly and Narrative Significance

After Vivisari Vexaria leaves a Caldimore-related confrontation, she first Blinks to Rafael’s office and then returns to the guildhall when Detect Presence reveals that Rafael is not there. Three mana sources are present inside instead. Her selective Invisibility enchantment allows nearby friendlies who intend to enter to pass unseen, meaning that the historical landmark can receive new members without provoking a city-wide frenzy. The unexpected presences indicate that Rafael has begun bringing other Vanguard members back.

Rafael’s initiative gives the hall a social function beyond storage and administration. He takes control of the reunion and urges the group to complete the first restoration stage by inducting Miraelle. The restored guild is consequently built through deliberate acts of recognition: old roles are checked, lost members are re-entered, and the charter becomes the instrument through which a legendary group acquires a present-tense existence.

Vanguard Guildhall also embodies the tension between public legend and private return. Meridian’s tourists see a sealed monument surrounded by rope and marked with a plaque. Rafael sees the unchanged room of his former life. Vivisari Vexaria sees both the preserved headquarters of her virtual guild and a structure that has survived the century without restoring the people who made it meaningful. Its reopening does not erase that rupture. Instead, the hall makes the rupture visible, then provides the space in which reconstruction can begin.

As a location, the guildhall is therefore more than Vanguard’s headquarters. It is a threshold between game and reality, historical memory and present action, dormancy and renewal. Its preserved rooms keep the past materially intact, while its reset tier, missing records, sealed vault, restored laboratory, and partial return of crafting materials show that preservation is not the same as recovery. Through the Restoration of Vanguard, Stage One, the building becomes the central mechanism by which Vivisari Vexaria’s return gains institutional form and by which Vanguard’s unfinished purpose is carried into whatever danger follows.
