The Desert Eagle is a large-frame semi-automatic pistol chambered in .44 caliber, modified to fire explosive silver bullets. Anton stores the weapon in a hollow gouged out of the bricks in his apartment, retrieving it when he anticipates a confrontation that may exceed his magical capacity. The pistol is kept in a shoulder holster, and Anton carries it with a full magazine of eight rounds. The explosive silver bullets are designed to be particularly effective against supernatural creatures: silver causes severe pain to vampires, and the explosive charge amplifies the damage. Anton explains to Olga that three hits from the Desert Eagle can render a vampire totally helpless, after which traditional methods can be used to finish the job. Olga, a centuries-old magician, expresses skepticism about technology, noting she has seen a werewolf regenerate after being torn apart by a shell, though she concedes that regeneration took three days.

Use in Combat

Anton first draws the Desert Eagle during the rooftop confrontation with the female vampire who has taken Egor hostage. As Semyon and Bear launch simultaneous attacks, Anton pulls the pistol from behind his back and fires, but the bullet, moving slowly through the Twilight, flares up in a bright petal of flame and disappears, blocked by a protective shield conjured by Zabulon. Later, during the hunt for the Maverick, Anton uses the Desert Eagle against a young Dark Magician who has tracked him to the Rizhskaya metro station. In the Twilight, Anton presses the barrel against the magician's spine and threatens him with the sensation of the bullet ripping through skin, muscle, and bone. When the magician lies about his orders, Anton fires a flesh wound into his stomach, then empties the entire clip into him, shattering his skull. After the killing, Anton reloads the clip slowly and mechanically, then returns the pistol to its holster.

Thematic Significance

The Desert Eagle represents Anton's pragmatic approach to the supernatural world, where he relies on technology when his magical powers are insufficient. This reliance on a mechanical weapon contrasts with the traditional magical methods favored by older, more powerful Others like Olga, who dismisses technology as unreliable. The pistol's explosive silver bullets are a modern adaptation of ancient folklore, combining silver's traditional efficacy against supernatural creatures with contemporary explosive technology. Anton's use of the Desert Eagle in the killing of the young Dark Magician marks a moral boundary: he steps beyond the constraints of the Treaty and uses lethal force without hesitation, a choice that carries profound consequences for his standing within the Watch and his own conscience.
