Identity and Background

Tiger Cub is a young woman who began training for the Watch at around seven years old and was already involved in field operations by sixteen. She is a transformer magician, a highly specialized combat type that Anton Gorodetsky initially mistakes for a shape-shifter; Semyon clarifies that she is essentially the same but with a "plus sign instead of a minus," noting that if she had been in a different mood when first entering the Twilight, she could have become a Dark shape-shifter. She originally possessed serious healing powers, but when she had to choose which side of her abilities to develop, Boris Ignatievich called her in for a serious talk over tea and cakes. They decided she should develop her combat powers even at the expense of everything else, a choice she found painful at first—she describes the transformation back from tiger form as the hardest part—but she stuck with it because she believed the boss and realized it was the right thing to do.

Role in the Night Watch

Tiger Cub is a front-line fighter, often paired with Bear as an inseparable duo. During the emergency briefing in Perovo, she is one of the operatives standing behind Boris Ignatievich, and her presence gives Anton a jolt—she and Bear are described as "really good, and they don't let anything stand in their way." When the boss announces the ultimatum about the Dark Magician, Tiger Cub quietly suggests that "situations can crop up over which we have no control," implying she would prefer to eliminate the threat rather than hand him over, though she backs off immediately when the boss snaps. On the roof during the confrontation with the vampire and Zabulon, she transforms into a young tigress weighing about a centner and a half, with a flaming orange aura and sparks wandering lazily over her fur, her tail twitching and her right front paw scraping through the bitumen of the roof. She fights Alisa Donnikova and Pyotr Nesterov simultaneously, and even after being mauled, she continues to move toward the witch. When Yulia is attacked by the dogs upon arrival, Tiger Cub is mortified and apologizes profusely. During the vacation, Tiger Cub is seen wandering through the forest with Yulia, and later, in the early morning, Anton witnesses her in tiger form, dashing between trees and ripping bark with her claws, a private release of the tension she carries. She reveals to Anton that she chose her path because she believed the boss and realized it was the right thing to do, and that now she is happy with her role, even though she admits she is only at the house two days a week. During the climax on the roof, Tiger Cub is part of the cordon around the building, and when Anton passes through, she whispers "Good luck" to him.
