Boji arrives too
Cajeiri insists that Boji travel with the party, despite the parid’ja’s history of escaping, stealing, and making noise. The large cage complicates an already crowded apartment and tests the patience of Lord Tatiseigi’s staff.
Care becomes practical
Madam Saidin proposes a chain after hearing that Boji chewed through a leash. Cajeiri recognizes that better restraint could prevent another escape, even as he remembers that Boji’s earlier escape may have helped avert violence.
The animal brings the dangers of the previous night into domestic life. Caring for Boji requires Cajeiri to accept practical limits while remaining attached to a creature that has become part of his small household.
A Small Distraction

A Small Distraction
Games in confinement
The children are confined to the apartment and have played cards, inspected the collection, and tried to keep from becoming bored or anxious. Boji’s movements provide an unpredictable source of amusement.
A shared task
Gene and Artur help manage the chain and cage while Cajeiri directs Boji with clicks. The animal responds to familiar sounds and gives the children an activity that does not depend on political knowledge.
The episode creates an ordinary childhood moment inside a security lockdown. Their attention shifts briefly from adult decisions to a lively creature they can feed, guide, and laugh about together.

The stolen speech
Boji snatches Cajeiri’s speech and leaps across the room, making the servants’ efforts to retrieve it more chaotic. Cajeiri calls the animal calmly and takes the crumpled paper back.
Confidence earned
His guests are impressed that Boji responds to him. Cajeiri feels grown-up, having managed a problem without a tantrum or calling on an adult to take control.
The incident is small but meaningful to the boy. It gives him a moment of competence before he must face the larger and more intimidating task of speaking in public as an heir.
