The Secure Floor

The Secure Floor
A residence within a fortress
The third floor of the Bujavid operates as a restricted and separately monitored area. Lifts require keys, security cameras serve the residents, and apartments connect to hidden staff routes.
Domestic life continues
Narani, Madam Saidin, and other staff arrange rooms, food, clothing, and animal care while security precautions remain active. The people maintaining the household must make extraordinary arrangements feel orderly and familiar.
The floor functions as both home and defensive system. Its protection depends not only on guards but on servants who know the routes, preserve discretion, and continue caring for the people under their roofs.
Orders Behind the Walls

Orders Behind the Walls
A household prepares
Bren gives Narani and the staff instructions for locking servant passages, responding to alarms, and moving to Tabini’s apartment if danger reaches their doors. The household is quietly prepared to evacuate or defend itself.
Secrecy maintained
The staff does not receive every operational detail. Their instructions are specific enough to act on without exposing information that could spread beyond the trusted circle.
The scene shows security as distributed labor. The paidhi’s household can remain protected only because domestic staff understand their roles and carry them out without demanding access to every secret.
A Passage for Damiri

A Passage for Damiri
A concealed route
When Damiri begins labor, the bodyguards and household staff move her through service corridors to avoid the crowded public areas. A lift is held for her and her physician is brought through the city under Guild escort.
Security becomes care
The same passages designed for discretion and defense allow Damiri to reach her apartment safely. Bren, Banichi, and the others support her while keeping the movement calm and controlled.
The corridors reveal a humane side of the security architecture. Systems built to protect rulers from attack can also protect a vulnerable person in a moment of birth, turning hidden infrastructure into a route for family care.
