The Red Train Diversion A plausible movement The Red Train takes an unusual route through Shejidan Old City under the cover of transporting Lord Tatiseigi’s art. Its presence is visible, but the explanation is credible enough to keep the operation from announcing itself too early. Hidden coordination The train’s crew, the dowager’s personnel, and the Guild teams depend on timed switches and prearranged signals. Communications are limited so that a compromised channel cannot reveal the plan. The route brings the emissary to the Guild’s doors while other forces move into position. Its apparent irregularity is part of the disguise, and its success determines whether the team arrives at the planned entrance or must improvise.

The Sealed Doors

The Sealed Doors Entry by charter Bren presents Tabini’s ring and announces that he speaks for the aiji. The first guards admit him, but the inner post tries to delay him outside the Council chamber. A question of loyalty Bren asks the guards whether their man’chi belongs to the Guild or merely to its current leaders. Banichi identifies the returning exiles and warns that the leadership has betrayed the institution. The standoff tests whether procedure still has meaning inside a compromised Guild. Bren’s credentials and argument buy time, while Banichi’s team prevents the door from closing and turning a lawful petition into a forced assault.

The Council Secured

The Council Secured Fighting at the threshold The Council guards open fire, and Bren’s team is caught amid shattered doors, alarms, smoke, and injuries. Reinforcements enter through the building while Cenedi acts in the administrative wing. A legal record restored The operation secures the Council chamber and the Office of Assignments. The returning members reconstitute the Council, receive Tabini’s documents, and formally enter the complaint into the Guild record. The takeover succeeds without dissolving the Guild or imposing an external ruler on it. That distinction gives the restored leadership a chance to prove its legitimacy through the institution’s own procedures, rather than through force alone.
