After purchasing grave-robbing tools at Watson's Hardware in Brewer, Louis Creed recrosses the Chamberlain Bridge—the same structure—into Bangor, where he checks into the Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge on the Odlin Road under the alias Dee Dee Ramone. The bridge thus marks the boundary between the mundane errand of buying equipment and the beginning of the night's horrific work: the exhumation of his son Gage from Pleasantview Cemetery.

Rachel's Crossing in the Early Morning

Rachel Creed, having missed her connecting flight from Boston to Portland, rents a car at Logan Airport and drives the entire distance to Maine. At five o'clock in the morning, she leaves the Maine Turnpike, drives the Hammond Street Cutoff close to Pleasantview Cemetery, and crosses the Bangor-Brewer Bridge. This crossing brings her into Ludlow, where she will arrive at Jud Crandall's house just before dawn—and where she will be killed by the resurrected Gage.
