Divided responsibilities
Sugríva sends leaders toward the east, west, north, and south, with each party given a broad route to explore. The scale of the search reflects both the size of the world and the uncertainty surrounding Sítá’s location.
A time-bound duty
The king expects the parties to return within the allotted period. The command gives the expedition a clear measure of success and turns delay into a danger of its own.

Lost in the Enchanted Cave
A hidden landscape
The southern Vánars enter a dark cavern and lose their sense of direction. They eventually reach the wondrous refuge guarded by Svayamprabhá.
Escape with time running out
Svayamprabhá brings them back to daylight, but their month has nearly expired. The rescue solves their immediate confinement while intensifying the fear that they will fail their king’s order.

Failure threatens punishment
The southern party reaches the sea without news of Sítá. Angad believes Sugríva will punish their failure and proposes that they fast to death rather than return.
The mission continues
Hanumán and the others resist despair and keep searching. Their choice leaves room for Sampáti’s revelation and turns a near-ending into a renewed pursuit.
