A Brother’s Warning

A Brother’s Warning
An appeal to reason
Vibhíshaṇ asks Rávaṇ to return Sítá and avoid a war that threatens Lanká. He speaks as a brother but also as a counsellor concerned for the people.
The refusal
Rávaṇ answers with suspicion and contempt. Their disagreement becomes irreversible when he treats loyalty as treachery and rejects the last peaceful option.
Leaving the Family

Leaving the Family
A moral separation
Vibhíshaṇ leaves Lanká with four companions and approaches Ráma. The choice costs him family and homeland, but he refuses to support Rávaṇ’s continuing injustice.
Refuge granted
Ráma accepts him despite Sugríva’s warning that he may be a spy. The decision makes a new alliance possible and defines Ráma’s treatment of those who seek protection.
A Funeral Between Brothers

A Funeral Between Brothers
Grief remains
Vibhíshaṇ mourns Rávaṇ even after their political break and initially questions whether the fallen king deserves funeral honors. Ráma urges him to perform the rites.
Kinship beyond conflict
The funeral allows Vibhíshaṇ to honor his brother without denying the harm he caused. He then accepts kingship and the duty to rebuild Lanká.
