Redirection of the Doomsday Meteor

Rock Falls, Everyone Dies

Redirection of the Doomsday Meteor is the decisive intervention through which the rock prevents a Class 10 impact on Planet Dirt. What begins as a system-issued threat becomes a test of scale, patience, and material ingenuity: the rock cannot simply overpower the meteor, so it enters the body, joins itself to it, and changes the trajectory of an object vastly larger than anything it had previously encountered. The successful redirection completes the Galactic Defender Quest and establishes the rock as a defender whose actions can determine the fate of an entire planet.

Warning and Stakes

The event begins when the system grants the rock a new title, Galactic Defender. The title carries both information and obligation: it provides knowledge of tier threats to the rock’s home and awards bonus experience for defending that world. Almost immediately, the associated alert identifies a Class 10 Doomsday Meteor and announces that it will hit Planet Dirt in 230 years. The warning converts an abstract increase in power into a concrete responsibility. The rock is no longer merely gathering strength for its own advancement; it now has a planetary deadline and a threatened homeworld.

The danger is especially severe because the meteor is not a small projectile that can be casually broken apart. When the rock finally reaches it after a long age of travel, it estimates the body at approximately 10,000 meters wide and, assuming a density comparable to its own, calculates a mass of about 1,361,356,816,555,580 kilograms. The rock’s response is therefore shaped by arithmetic as much as by courage. Its habitual philosophy is to increase its numbers when confronted by a problem, but the meteor presents a scale at which raw numerical superiority alone is not an obvious solution.

The Infiltration and Transformation

The rock solves the problem by adapting an image it had observed in an earlier battle: a mining suit’s distinctive drill. It concentrates Qi through Diamond Skin, not as a coating over its entire surface but as a single diamond arrowhead projecting outward like a horn. It then uses Energy Shift in a new way, creating rotation rather than merely converting energy into the kinetic motion it already understands. This is a technical and conceptual breakthrough. The rock turns its own body into a drilling instrument and makes unfamiliar application of its abilities serve a precise mechanical purpose.

The work proceeds calmly and methodically. The drill crushes portions of the meteor into dust; Meteor Shower and small channels of gravity move the debris away, while the rock periodically withdraws so the pulverized material can spill from the passage. The process is slow but controlled, and it continues until the rock reaches the meteor’s center. At that point, the event becomes more than an operation performed against an external object. The rock senses the difference between itself and the body surrounding it and confronts the question of why one mass possesses a spark of consciousness while the other does not.

Qi vessels then sprout through the meteor like electrical cables, spreading across its vast body as the rock’s consciousness expands. The meteor does not become an independent mind, but it becomes attached to the rock’s awareness and fixed around it as an immense extension of its being. The rock seals the tunnel with a deep well of gravity, allowing rock and dust to fall back into the passage, and activates Diamond Skin again. A gleaming shell spreads across the entire asteroid, including the former entry hole. The result is a single protected mass, far larger than any rock the protagonist had encountered on the original mountaintop.

The Course Correction

The final action is almost impossibly small compared with the scale of the threat. Once the meteor has been enclosed and integrated, the rock exerts gravity and gives the whole mass the tiniest nudge. That minute alteration is enough to send the Doomsday Meteor off course. The planet is saved not through spectacular destruction but through exactness: the rock does not annihilate the meteor, and it does not need to halt its enormous motion. It changes the direction by the smallest effective amount, allowing distance and time to complete what force could not.

The system confirms the result with the announcement that the Galactic Defender Quest has been cleared and awards bonus experience. The reward formalizes what the action has already demonstrated. The rock’s growth is no longer confined to surviving local dangers, defeating dungeon invaders, or exploiting the terrain of a single world. Its abilities now operate across astronomical distances and against bodies whose dimensions make its former identity as a pebble seem almost absurd.

Institutional Failure and the Limits of Defense

The meteor’s threat also reveals how vulnerable Planet Dirt’s conventional defenders are. The world contains heroes, demons, cities accustomed to dragons flying overhead, mages, and dungeon systems capable of recognizing an invasion. Yet the warning does not produce an effective collective response. In a separate dungeon crisis, the status identifies only one invader with an average level of six, showing how the system frames danger through administrative indicators; at the city below the mountain, defenses exist because the inhabitants are familiar with aerial threats, but those defenses belong to a much smaller scale of conflict.

The later planetary emergency makes that inadequacy explicit. An emergency broadcast announces that the world will end in sixty minutes and warns of meteor showers. The mages gather in a hurried remote conference and initially argue over who will receive the glory of saving the world. Practicality eventually prevails, and the newly elected Supreme Grand Magus of the city with a jade statue is chosen because the landing zone had been foretold. The world’s mana is routed to him through remote connections and ancient treasures, briefly placing its power at his fingertips.

That response fails against the meteor’s scale. The mightiest defenders cannot stop it. Even destroying the body would leave its fragments falling toward the world, while sending it back upward would create a continuing meteor shower; moreover, the rock reasons that the meteor would eventually return, larger than before. The contrast is central to the event’s meaning. Institutional defense treats the catastrophe as an attack to repel with concentrated power, whereas the rock treats it as a problem of mass, velocity, energy, and trajectory. Its success comes from changing the relation between bodies rather than staging a larger contest of force.

Cosmic Significance

The redirection follows the rock’s widening education in scale. It began as a pretty gneiss pebble on a violently shaking mountaintop, newly aware but unable to understand the world beyond its limited senses. It once made a fatal misjudgment when a rabbit heard its approach and dodged, leaving the stone lodged between boulders above a chasm. Later, experimentation with heating and cooling gave it an awareness of energy beyond the kinetic motion it could already grasp. At an altitude of 15,000 meters, it saw that its original peak was only one point among many along the continent’s mountain spine and recognized its own smallness.

Its ontology then expands again when it realizes that everything is fundamentally rock: the planet below, grains of sand, and the glowing orb in the sky differ in scale and power, not in basic substance. The Doomsday Meteor event turns that insight into action. The rock does not merely observe a larger stone; it incorporates one. Its consciousness, Qi, gravity, and protective shell cross the boundary between individual object and astronomical body, making planetary defense a form of self-extension.

The event also prepares a later change in perception. After rising to an altitude of 6,498,240 meters, the rock hears sound for the first time. Before spaceflight, it could perceive only the earth’s rumbles and vibrations because it had no ears; by then, growth and mastery of its domain have expanded what the rock can sense. The redirection therefore stands between two kinds of awakening: the practical awakening that allows it to manipulate a meteor and the sensory awakening that will later let it hear a soft, sorrowful, energetic song. Its defense of Planet Dirt is consequently both an external rescue and another step in the rock’s transformation from inert pebble into a cosmic subject.
