Unresolved Tutorial Quest

Rock Falls, Everyone Dies

Unresolved Tutorial Quest is the condition produced when the Tutorial Quest: Roll out cannot recognize that its destination has been reached. The quest originally requires the rock to reach the bottom of the mountain, and after immense effort its displayed altitude finally reaches zero. Yet the system cannot reconcile that result with the transformed geography beneath the rock. What should have been completion becomes an unresolved error, leaving the rock with power, growth, and a permanent failure it cannot repair.

Definition and Objective

The state belongs to the Tutorial Quest: Roll out, whose stated task is to reach the bottom of the mountain. When the prompt first resolves, it records a current altitude of 0 and describes the quest as legendary difficulty with legendary rewards still unknown. The system begins processing the result and calculates that the distance to the bottom of the mountain is zero. On the surface, every visible requirement has therefore been fulfilled: the rock has reached the destination, and the numerical condition has been satisfied.

The difficulty lies in the fact that the world has changed while the quest remained fixed. The rock is no longer merely traveling down an ordinary mountain. It has become the center of a newly forged planet through planetary fusion, and the old geographical reference no longer has a stable location. The quest’s simple instruction survives the transformation, but its coordinate system does not.

Emergence of the Error

The quest begins resolving only after the rock has endured the long process that brings the planet together around it. Its completion prompt appears at the moment when the rock is waiting beneath the earth, with the destination apparently reached. The system processes the quest, confirms the zero distance, and then produces an error stating that the location cannot be found. The contradiction is immediate: the altitude is zero, but the place that altitude is supposed to measure no longer exists in a form the system can identify.

The failure escalates rather than correcting itself. The interface produces repeated errors, then an error condition indicating that there are too many errors. It attempts to resolve the contradiction, obfuscates the result, and finishes without producing a reward or a valid completion. The system consequently preserves the quest while stripping away the information needed to finish it: the current altitude becomes unreadable, the reward remains unknown, and the status is explicitly marked unresolved.

Renaming and the Second Failure

The rock refuses to accept the first failure as the final answer. Using its new authority, it assigns the mountain a name and reconnects that named mountain to the quest. This is an attempt to restore the missing reference through definition: if the system cannot find the original mountain, perhaps a newly named one can serve as the destination. The intervention briefly makes the prompt more legible, again showing a current altitude of zero.

The repair fails for a more precise reason. The system identifies the mountain as Mt Tartus but declares the distance invalid. The mountain is now recognized, yet it still lies outside the rock’s valid reach. The problem has shifted from a missing location to an impossible relationship between destination and distance. The quest remains unresolved, and the golden objective that once organized the rock’s journey is pushed beyond its grasp at the very instant when completion seemed certain.

Emotional and Narrative Consequences

The unresolved status changes the meaning of the rock’s achievement. The rock has grown into the biggest rock of all and retains its levels and statistics, but those measurable gains cannot compensate for the failed tutorial. The quest becomes a permanent reminder that numerical progress does not guarantee meaningful completion. It is an itch that remains because the system can record advancement more readily than it can recognize transformation.

The rock experiences despair when the renewed attempt fails, though that despair is brief. It eventually finds waiting easier when hope has been abandoned. This is not a resolution of the quest but an accommodation to its permanence. The unresolved state therefore marks a late reversal in the growth cycle: earlier prompts convert patience into new abilities, while this prompt converts patience into endurance of an answer that will not change.

Significance After Planetary Transformation

The state reveals the instability of a system built for a smaller world. The Tutorial Quest: Roll out begins as a concrete instruction about descending a mountain, but the rock’s ascent through increasingly vast scales makes the instruction ontologically obsolete. The world below is understood as a rock, then the rock becomes a planet, and the former mountain is absorbed into a planetary structure whose dimensions defeat the original tutorial logic.

That failure does not stop the narrative. The rock continues leveling, becomes a level 12 Planet, and eventually turns toward planetary creation and beauty. Its music changes, its carved mountain becomes the beginning of an artistic practice, and it begins creating over eons and millennia. The unresolved quest remains beside that creative future as a counterpoint: the system cannot grant closure, but the rock can still make meaning beyond the system’s categories. In this way, the failed tutorial is both a plot condition and a thematic boundary, separating externally assigned progress from the rock’s later ability to create on its own terms.
