Meteorite class advancement

Rock Falls, Everyone Dies

Meteorite class advancement marks the turning point at which the awakened gneiss stone ceases to be defined primarily by rolling and becomes a body capable of traveling through space. At an altitude of 15,000 meters, after rising far above the mountains and recognizing the smallness of its former world, the stone receives an unexpected opportunity: eligibility for the Meteorite class. The advancement changes both its physical scale and its range of action, transforming a seemingly futile ascent into the next stage of its quest.

Conditions and Turning Point

The advancement occurs after the stone has been launched upward and carried beyond the mountain landscape that originally bounded its experience. From that height, the peak where its awareness began appears as only one point among many along the continent’s mountain spine. The sight makes the stone aware of its own minuteness, and it becomes still while waiting for another opportunity. Its upward movement has not yet produced the encounter or strength it wanted, but the pause creates the narrative space for a new possibility to appear.

That possibility answers the stone’s desperate wish to continue growing. The system announces that a class advancement has been unlocked and that the conditions have been fulfilled. The stone is informed that it is eligible for the Meteorite class and is presented with the choice of upgrading its Rolling Stone class. The advancement is therefore both a reward and a structural redirection: the stone does not merely gain another statistic, but receives a new identity appropriate to the scale it has reached.

Transformation into a Meteorite

After accepting the advancement, the stone is congratulated and recognized as a level 10 Meteorite. Its size-scaling factor increases from 1.5 to 2, while its diameter expands from 2.31 meters to 4.61 meters. Its hit points also rise from 55 to 89. These numerical changes make the class transition visible in concrete physical terms. The stone is no longer merely more experienced; it is substantially larger, more durable, and better equipped to survive the dangers beyond the atmosphere.

The transformation also changes how the stone understands its own movement. Once it is in space, it no longer rolls across a surface but spins through an environment without ordinary ground. That change creates a problem of identity: the old class name describes a motion the stone no longer performs. The Meteorite advancement resolves the tension by giving the stone a form that belongs to astral travel rather than terrestrial descent.

New Abilities and Astral Mobility

The advancement grants the new subability Pivot Point: Orbital Slingshot. This ability allows the stone to lock itself into orbit around an astral body, gather speed gradually, and then launch forward. Its movement is no longer dependent on a mountain slope, a battlefield, or another creature throwing it. Orbital mechanics become a replacement for gravity-bound rolling, giving the stone a way to convert the surrounding celestial environment into momentum.

The class change also converts Avalanche into Meteor Shower. The revised skill enables the stone to gather other rocks around itself and carry them along during its astral voyage. The alteration preserves an earlier association with masses of stone while expanding its scale: what was once an avalanche becomes a group of bodies traveling together through space. The stone’s growth consequently affects more than its own body, allowing it to turn nearby matter into part of its movement and attack.

Wider Meaning in the Stone’s Development

Meteorite class advancement belongs to a longer pattern in which the stone’s limited understanding is repeatedly forced to expand. At first, it has only recently acquired awareness and can barely account for having thoughts. Its first attempts at action are also constrained by incomplete perception: when it approaches a rabbit, it fails to recognize the creature’s sound and is left lodged between boulders after the rabbit dodges. Later, it learns to sense energy while experimenting with heating and cooling, discovering that changes in energy can be perceived as well as kinetic motion.

The system remains a constant source of both opportunity and restriction. When the stone attempts to push Energy Shift beyond its safe limit, the system halts it and reports that safeguards have been activated. The Meteorite advancement differs from that failure because it is an authorized expansion rather than an abuse of an existing ability. The stone’s progress is thus shaped by a negotiation between its own experiments and the rules governing what its abilities may become.

The new class also reinforces the stone’s developing material philosophy. From space, it recognizes that everything is fundamentally rock: the planet below, the grains of sand beside it, and the glowing celestial body far away differ in scale and power rather than in basic substance. Becoming a Meteorite gives that insight a practical form. The stone is now both an individual traveler and one instance of a broader continuum of rocky matter, moving from a child-sized pebble on a shaking mountaintop toward an object capable of orbital motion and planetary-scale consequences.

Consequences and Narrative Significance

The advancement changes the direction of the story. Goblins notice that the stone is special, a Bone Core panics because the intruder will not stop, and a Dragon later seizes it as a weapon against thieves entering its hoard. Those earlier reactions establish the stone as abnormal within the terrestrial world. Meteorite class advancement carries that abnormality beyond the world’s surface, where it can approach spaceships, hear for the first time, and encounter forms of life and technology that could not have appeared within its original range.

Its importance is therefore not limited to a level increase. The event supplies the mechanism for the book’s movement from mountain, dungeon, and dragon’s cavern into the astral realm. It converts vertical escape into deliberate celestial navigation, gives the stone companions in the form of gathered rocks, and makes future collisions, interceptions, and planetary encounters possible. Even the stone’s later transfer of its quest to a younger hero depends on the long chain of growth that this class advancement begins. The old stone can eventually wait for another hero because the advancement has turned its once-local existence into a history large enough to be inherited.
