An Initiation Task

An Initiation Task
A young practitioner is recruited
Aurelio, an aspiring Yoruba officiant, is drawn into a clandestine Masonic network with promises of travel and advancement. His initiation assignment is to steal Rodrigo Lerbier’s cameo.
A religious mission is manipulated
He is told the stone must be taken to protect humanity from its powers. That claim gives a criminal act the appearance of spiritual service and allows others to exploit Aurelio’s desire for purpose.
Descent into the Sect

Descent into the Sect
A new world of power
Aurelio reaches the United States and becomes involved with a Satanist Sect, where he is gradually drawn into occult practices and criminal violence. The group’s promised freedom becomes coercion and dependency.
Identity is taken over
The sect supplies a substitute family and a father figure in Satan. Aurelio becomes an instrument of the group’s will, participating in abuses that later leave him horrified and ashamed.
A Moment of Recognition

A Moment of Recognition
A conversation breaks through
Aurelio overhears a leader describe Lucifer as good and Adonai as evil. The doctrine does not introduce him to new practices so much as make him hear clearly what he has already accepted.
Prayer changes direction
He calls on Jésus-Christ and decides to escape. His recognition comes with no guarantee of safety, but it marks a turning point from passive participation to an attempt to reclaim his will.
The Crossing to Cuba

The Crossing to Cuba
A dangerous flight
Aurelio evades the sect, reaches Key West, and steals a small boat. He crosses the Straits of Florida with little equipment, uncertain whether the current will carry him to Cuba or leave him to die.
Return to a human bond
After reaching shore, he seeks Rodrigo Lerbier, the former mentor he betrayed. His return is driven by the need to confess and reconnect with a life not governed by the sect.
Confession and Murder

Confession and Murder
A witness speaks
Aurelio confesses his role in the theft and describes the violence he witnessed. His story helps Rodrigo reconsider his own involvement in Santería and the meaning of the cameo.
The past remains dangerous
Aurelio is murdered near a Havana cathedral in February 2016. His return and confession do not end the sect’s influence; they make him a target and leave Rodrigo fearing that he too may be pursued.
