Koish Town

Systema Delenda Est

Koish Town is presented as one of the settlements exposed to the recurring quest’s unpredictable violence. Its significance lies less in a detailed physical description than in the pressure placed on its inhabitants: when a Bismuth moves into the town, survival depends on evacuation and on finding somewhere to house those displaced.

A Settlement Under Pressure

Koish Town enters the narrative through Karsa’s report to Arene that a Bismuth has moved into the settlement. The arrival is treated as an emergency rather than an ordinary change of residents. A Bismuth is so powerful that even all five Platinums on the planet would have little chance against one, making direct resistance effectively impossible for the local defenders. The town therefore becomes a point where the hierarchy of power is made concrete: a settlement’s claim to safety can be overturned by a single high-rank outsider.

The Recurring Quest

The danger surrounding Koish Town is part of a larger pattern. After the strange creature vanished into the sky, the quest continued instead of disappearing. Every few days, a new zone was added at random, as though the quest could teleport from place to place or descend from the heavens. Koish Town is consequently not an isolated target. It is one manifestation of a planet-wide crisis in which the location of danger cannot be predicted and the rewards attached to the quest attract people willing to pursue them.

Evacuation and Refuge

Karsa tells Arene that most people were evacuated, but not everyone. Her clipped report identifies the town’s central consequence: displacement has created an immediate need for shelter. Arene recognizes that the problem cannot be solved simply by ordering the survivors elsewhere, because everyone she knows has already used their building tokens, and even town tokens are difficult to obtain. Such tokens are normally awarded for breaking through to Gold or occasionally granted by special quests; the former cannot be hurried, while the latter is so rare that Arene has encountered it only once.

Administrative Scarcity

Koish Town’s predicament is intensified by the wider exhaustion of planetary resources. Arene’s farcaster is nearly out of charge, and operating it is ruinously expensive because the planet appears to be low on essence despite the influx of foreign high-rankers. With Onswa’s administrative access still restricted and Platinums occupied with emergencies across the planet, communication and administration are both strained. The town thus exposes a structural weakness in the settlement system: powerful outsiders can arrive quickly, but the tools required to relocate ordinary people and rebuild safe housing remain scarce.

Narrative Significance

Koish Town functions as a recurring type of threatened settlement rather than as a fully explored community. Its appearance links three pressures that govern this stage of the story: the quest’s seemingly supernatural mobility, the overwhelming authority of high-rank characters, and the material limits of evacuation. The town’s fate is left unresolved in the available passage, but its narrative role is clear. It turns an abstract planetary crisis into a practical question of who can be moved, who must be left behind, and whether any settlement can remain secure when danger may arrive from the sky.
