The House Is Searched

The Search Reaches Ken
Physical Evidence
After Josie Trott identifies the delivery driver from CCTV, Eve Strong, Bill Nicol, and Paul Forrester go to Ken Carlton’s home. They find the black cab, victim tunics, and the specially adapted bathroom.
Eve spots the loft hatch and uses the hooked pole to lower the ladder. The discovery confirms that the victims have been held in the house, but the officers do not yet know whether Ken is nearby.
Rescue Becomes Urgent
Jill Richards is alive inside the cage and Zoe Hardy is unconscious beside it. The search shifts immediately from collecting evidence to getting both women out and obtaining medical help.
Ken Takes a Hostage

The Captor Returns
A Knife at Eve’s Throat
Ken enters the house while police are freeing the captives. He attacks Eve in the dining room, takes her by the hair, and holds a carving knife against her neck.
He orders Bill and Paul to put down their phones and retreat. The officers comply because a sudden move could cause the knife to cut Eve’s throat.
A New Crisis
The rescue is not complete when the women are found. Ken’s return turns the house into a hostage scene, forcing the officers and captives to find a way to interrupt his control without provoking another killing.
Jill Strikes Back

A Weapon Reversed
The Opening
Eve pretends to stumble and drives her head backward into Ken’s face. The blow makes him drop the knife and gives the others a brief chance to move.
Jill reaches the kitchen and hits him with the blow lamp he had brought for the captives. Ken falls, and Paul handcuffs him before he can recover.
The Threat Is Named
Jill realizes that the blow lamp was intended to burn her and Zoe. Her fear becomes an explanation of the danger that police have interrupted, reinforcing why the women’s rescue had to happen when it did.
The Trophy Drawers

The House Confirms the Crimes
Evidence in the Sideboard
Investigators find preserved fingertips, a plait of blonde hair, and Felicity Wanless’s tattoo in drawers at Ken’s house. The collection gives forensic and investigative weight to the captives’ accounts.
The trophies connect Ken to the earlier murders and show that the missing body parts were kept rather than discarded. The house now contains evidence of both the living women’s captivity and the dead women’s mutilation.
A Case Takes Shape
Sheila Ormiston and the team preserve the material for a prosecution. Ken’s private archive, intended to keep his crimes under his control, becomes part of the public record against him.
Hospital and Legal Aftermath

Survival Is Not Closure
Medical Recovery
Jill is treated for the injuries and deprivation she suffered, while Zoe remains sedated and connected to medical equipment. Both women face physical recovery as well as the prospect of therapy.
Eve visits them and thanks Jill for saving her life. The encounter recognizes that the survivors have acted under extraordinary pressure, but it does not pretend that the trauma is over.
The Case Continues
Ken is in custody and police have evidence from the house, the cab, and his trophy collection. The immediate threat has ended, but prosecution, recovery, and grief remain part of the aftermath.
