Brussels National Airport

The Day of the Jackal

Brussels National Airport serves as the Jackal’s point of arrival in Brussels and the first stage of his carefully divided luggage arrangements. Just after twelve, he leaves his three main pieces of luggage in an automatic locker in the main terminal building, taking only a hand-grip with him into town.

Arrival and Luggage

The hand-grip contains his personal effects, plaster of Paris, cotton wool, and bandages. Separating these items from the three larger pieces lets him travel onward with what he needs immediately while leaving the rest secured at the airport.

Role in the Plot

The airport is a brief but practical threshold in the Jackal’s journey: he lands, deposits most of his luggage, and continues into Brussels with a limited set of belongings. The scene establishes the methodical handling of his equipment before he retrieves the case containing his gun from the station’s left-luggage office.
