Yellow Fiat Punto
The Death of Bunny MunroThe Yellow Fiat Punto is Bunny’s car and the means by which he travels with Bunny Junior. More than transport, it provides the setting for their movement through traffic and their stop at Eternity Enterprises, while the boy’s appointment as navigator marks a small shift in how the journey is shared.
Appearance and Condition
When Bunny turns the key, the engine splutters before starting. The car is described as yellow, a color that remains striking when father and son climb into it later: its body is dotted with seagull droppings. The contrast between its vivid appearance and its sputtering start makes the car both conspicuous and imperfectly dependable.
The Journey and Its Stops
The Punto carries Bunny through weekend traffic and along the seafront. On a later drive, Bunny and Bunny Junior set out in the afternoon heat, roll down the windows, and continue through traffic. After Bunny encounters a skateboarder and a concrete mixer truck on the road, he stops at a petrol station to fill the car, then drives to the cramped Western Road offices of Eternity Enterprises. He parks in a disabled bay and leaves the boy waiting inside while he goes in.
The Boy as Navigator
The car also becomes the setting for a change in the father-and-son journey. Bunny identifies an A to Z as a map and tells Bunny Junior that he is the navigator; the Punto then lurches into the street. The appointment gives the boy a practical role in their travel, turning the car from a vehicle Bunny controls alone into the immediate space where he asks his son to help guide them.
