Erfoud

The Forgiven

Erfoud is a town in the Tafilalet, described as lying within North Africa’s largest oasis and as the region from which Morocco’s royal family came. In the novel, it is both a fossil-trading center and a temporary stop on David’s journey with Abdellah and the Aït Kebbash. Its wind, dust, crowded streets, and active night markets frame a passage in which David remains an uneasy outsider even when surrounded by people.
