The one experience I shall never describe

The Friend

The one experience I shall never describe is a recurring expression of the boundary between speaking about death and disclosing an experience that remains unnamed. First presented through a journal entry attributed to Virginia Woolf, it returns near the book’s close in altered grammatical form, beside a suicide-risk question, an imagined drowning, and an expression of continuing grief.
