The Noise-Free Void

The Noise-Free Void
A rupture in the world
Todd hears an impossible silence among the ruins in the Swamp. Because every living thing has seemed to broadcast its thoughts, the void feels less like quiet than a wound.
A clue with consequences
He hides the discovery from the town, but the Mayor’s circle somehow learns of it. What Todd considers a private mystery becomes the trigger for his expulsion and the pursuit that shapes the journey.
The Flight Begins

The Flight Begins
A sudden departure
Ben and Cillian tell Todd to leave Prentisstown immediately. They have packed a bag in secret and urge him to keep the swamp discovery out of his Noise.
The world beyond home
Todd resists until Ben reveals that his mother’s journal and a map hold answers. An explosion at the farm turns the planned escape into a hurried separation, sending Todd and Manchee downriver alone.
The Silent Girl

The Silent Girl
An encounter in the dark
Following the moving void, Todd finds a frightened girl instead of a Spackle. Her silence unsettles him, but he lowers his aggression enough to treat her bleeding arm.
An unexpected companion
She flees when Aaron attacks, then returns to Todd’s path after he chooses to protect her. The girl’s presence changes his escape into a shared journey, though neither understands the danger or the bond forming between them.
The Road to Farbranch

The Road to Farbranch
A destination revealed
Todd studies Ben’s map and struggles to read its message. Viola eventually identifies Farbranch as their destination and learns that Todd has been asked to warn its people.
Pursuit and retreat
They evade the Mayor’s riders, destroy a bridge to delay them, and reach Farbranch expecting refuge. The town’s suspicion and the approaching army quickly make clear that reaching safety is not the same as finding it.
The Last Run

The Last Run
A warning ignored
Prentisstown’s army attacks Farbranch, and Todd and Viola flee rather than bring further danger to its people. Their route leads through settlements, a refugee caravan, and the vast Here-Singing herd.
Hope and capture
The pair reach the Falls and glimpse Haven, only for Aaron to shoot Viola and Mayor Prentiss to seize the city. Their arrival ends the flight but not the danger: they enter Haven as prisoners.
