Bandomeer

The Last Jedi

Bandomeer serves as both a dangerous Imperial port and a useful disguise for the Far Ranger: its established shipping traffic lets the crew pose as an ordinary freighter while secretly contacting local resistance members and obtaining ionite.

An Imperial Port as Cover

Bandomeer has a pronounced Imperial presence, strengthened after Darth Vader crushed the miners’ revolt there the previous year. Palpatine has continued to keep the world under watch, and Imperial Inquisitors are present as well. For Jax Pavan and Laranth Tarak, that threat means staying aboard the Far Ranger and lying low rather than moving freely on the planet.

The danger does not rule out a stop. Tuden Sal argues that a subversive ship would attract less notice by making routine calls at Imperial ports than by taking a conspicuously unusual route. Thi Xon Yimmon ultimately approves the approach: the Far Ranger can appear to be a freighter conducting mundane business, unloading and taking on cargo. Bandomeer is therefore not a safe haven but a calculated piece of cover.

Resistance Contact and Ionite

While Jax and Laranth remain aboard, I-Five and Den Dhur go ashore to barter for ionite, using the transaction as part of their freighter’s ordinary commercial pretense. The stop also brings them into contact with members of Bandomeer’s local Whiplash resistance and allows an exchange of information.

The cargo matters beyond its value as a trade good. Ionite cancels either a positive or negative charge, making it useful against equipment such as shield generators and communications grids; it has also proved effective as a component in weapons. After loading ore and ingots, the Far Ranger continues along the Hydian Way carrying enough ionite to meet the needs of its allies on Toprawa.

Role in the Journey

Bandomeer is one of several scheduled ports on the Far Ranger’s circuit, rather than the crew’s ultimate destination. The planned sequence disguises the ship’s larger purpose: the resistance contacts and supplies gathered along the way support the onward journey to Toprawa. The episode captures the location’s double significance for the crew—Imperial surveillance makes it hazardous, while routine commerce makes that same Imperial port useful to a resistance operation.
