The Jedi Destroy the Star Temple and Infinity Gate

The Last Jedi

The Jedi’s destruction of the Star Temple and Infinity Gate ended an attempt by Dathomir’s Nightsisters and Nightbrothers to strike at Coruscant, then the Republic’s seat. The act defeated the outcast orders and removed the portal they had used; its lasting consequence was Dathomir’s near-quarantine, which persisted for thirteen years.

Background and the Threat

The crisis arose from two outcast orders, the Nightsisters and Nightbrothers, whose members had been cast out from existing Dathomiri tribes. Many Nightbrothers were human–Zabrak hybrids. In the years leading up to the Clone Wars, the orders allied themselves with the Sith, but their use of the Infinity Gate to threaten Coruscant came before that alliance.

The portal’s discovery had been serendipitous. The orders turned it into a means of attempting to destroy Coruscant, making the danger more than a local Dathomiri conflict: the target was the Republic’s seat. The account does not detail the attempted assault or the Jedi campaign, but establishes the Gate as the instrument that made the orders’ threat reach beyond their world.

The Jedi’s Intervention

The Jedi brought down the Nightsisters and Nightbrothers and destroyed the Star Temple on Dathomir, where the Infinity Gate was contained. The defeat and destruction are presented together: the orders were stopped, and the structure that housed the portal was eliminated. The historical account supplies no tactical details, casualties, or further description of the confrontation.

Aftermath and Significance

Dathomir had been all but quarantined since the Jedi intervention, thirteen years earlier. That isolation fell broadly on the planet rather than only on the defeated orders, and was described as unfair to most of the clans. Yet the world possessed neither a strategic position nor natural resources the Empire might covet, and its technology posed no threat the Empire might fear; the account thus links its continued isolation to both the legacy of the crisis and its limited value to Imperial interests.

The event also forms part of the history behind Jax Pavan’s interest in the Witches of Dathomir. Though their mantra aligned them with the light side of the Force, Jax recognized a sharp contradiction in their failure to include slavery in their definition of evil. He nevertheless regarded them as Force-users living beyond the Jedi Order’s more regimented existence, as Laranth and the Gray Paladins did. The destruction of the Star Temple therefore marks both a past confrontation with dangerous Force-using orders and the historical shadow beneath Jax’s present search for knowledge among Dathomir’s less conventional practitioners.
