Archenland
The Magician's NephewArchenland is a kingdom connected to Narnia through the family of its first rulers: the second son of King Frank and Queen Helen becomes its king. This brief genealogical link extends the reach of Narnia’s founding dynasty beyond the country itself and gives Archenland a place in the generations that follow.
Founding and Royal Connection
At their crowning, Aslan names Frank and Helen father and mother of many kings who will rule in Narnia, the Isles, and Archenland. The blessing places Archenland within the future of their family before its particular ruler is identified. The later account specifies that their second son becomes King of Archenland, making the kingdom part of the royal succession established at Narnia’s beginning.
Place in the Narnian Settlement
The account of the ensuing centuries presents Archenland as one element in a larger pattern of peaceful dynastic growth. Frank and Helen’s children live happily in Narnia; their second son rules Archenland, while the royal family’s marriages connect its descendants with nymphs, wood-gods, and river-gods. Archenland is thus named not as a setting for a described episode, but as a neighboring realm whose ruler descends from Narnia’s first royal household.
