“We Investigate Anything”

The Mystery of The Invisible Dog

“We Investigate Anything” is the Three Investigators’ motto, a compact statement of the broad investigative purpose they present to prospective clients. On their business card it appears alongside the team’s question-mark symbol and the names and roles of its members, linking the promise to investigate with an emblem of the unknown.

Wording and Card

The motto is printed on the team’s business card. The card also identifies Jupiter Jones as First Investigator, Pete Crenshaw as Second Investigator, and Bob Andrews as responsible for Records and Research. The phrase therefore appears not as a detached slogan but as part of a presentation that names the group and distinguishes its members’ functions.

Meaning and Use

When Fenton Prentice asks about the boys’ interest in unusual matters, Jupiter explains that the question marks on the card symbolize the unknown and can be read as a statement of that interest. He adds that the investigators have solved bizarre puzzles before and are prepared to try to help Prentice. The motto’s sweeping wording is thus paired with the symbol’s more specific suggestion: the team’s work begins where something remains unexplained.
