Hero Society Headquarters

The Night Cleaner

Hero Society Headquarters is more than the operational base of the heroes: it is a place where Esme’s nursing work connects her to the society, where conflict reaches into the group’s own premises, and where its surviving members eventually gather after time has been reversed. Its story moves from a site of practical care and security to a setting marked by destruction and then renewed possibility.

Medical Work and Everyday Use

Esme works night shifts at the hospital and also takes part-time nursing duty at Hero Society Headquarters when the heroes need her. The work gives her a way to help people with powers, extending the care she has provided since becoming a nurse to those who risk their lives protecting others. The headquarters is thus not only a place for heroic activity: it is also a setting for the less visible work of looking after the people who perform it.

That work includes collecting blood samples from the heroes. Esme wants to examine the samples for anomalies, diseases, and vulnerabilities, treating medical knowledge as a means of understanding and supporting the group. When Phillip tells her that the vials have been broken, the samples cannot serve their intended purpose and she will have to collect another set. The episode gives the headquarters a practical, medical dimension: care there involves preparation and attention to risks, not only responding to injury or crisis.

An Explosion Near the Headquarters

After finishing a hospital shift, Esme walks the few blocks to Hero Society Headquarters, curious whether anyone is there. She reflects on how her life has changed: where she had once had virtually no one beyond Melissa Ann as a friend, she now feels she has a family within the society as well as a growing circle of connections. That sense of expanding belonging is interrupted when the building she is passing explodes.

Esme is thrown into the street. Once she has regained her bearings, she checks herself and looks for anyone else who might be hurt, but sees no one else at the scene. A woman emerges from the damaged building, apparently absorbing the fire around her, and approaches Esme. Esme has no combat training and recognizes that her powers would not help her fight the woman. The scene brings violence to the vicinity of the headquarters and turns an ordinary walk toward the group’s base into an immediate threat; the evidence identifies the building as the one Esme was passing, not explicitly as the headquarters itself.

Draco arrives with Asher, who is chanting while watching the burning building. Rain begins to fall and slowly puts out the fire. Their arrival shifts the scene from Esme’s isolation to a response by members of the society, showing the headquarters’ wider role as a focal point for people who come to protect one another even when danger breaks out nearby.

Headquarters as a Contested Stronghold

The headquarters also becomes the target of an unauthorized operation by Dorian’s crew. Without Dorian’s orders, the crew enters the heroes’ headquarters and locks its members in their containment room. Roady, the group’s hacker, bypasses the security system within seconds. The crew believes it is helping, but its intervention instead makes matters worse, and Dorian treats its disregard of his authority as serious enough to answer with silence rather than immediate discussion.

This episode establishes both the headquarters’ defensive purpose and the limits of its security. It has a containment room and a system that can be bypassed, making the building a physical site of confinement as well as a refuge for the heroes. The failed raid also reveals that the conflict is not simply between opposing sides: actions taken in the name of assistance can deepen disorder when they are undertaken without authorization.

A New Gathering Place After Time Reversal

After time has been reversed, the group gathers in the back parking lot while the restaurant is under construction. Esme realizes that she had forgotten how new the headquarters had been. The unfinished restaurant and the recollection of the recently established base give the gathering a transitional setting: the people have returned to a point before the troubles began, but they are already looking toward how to live differently.

The others greet Esme warmly, though their smiles fade when they notice Dorian beside her. Dorian says he will go wherever Esme goes. Phillip then explains that Asher, with Dorian’s and Draco’s help, broke into time and reversed it to a point when everyone was alive and the trouble had not begun. Everyone retains their memories. Phillip has invited Dorian to join them, describing him as having abandoned his villainous ways and become the hero who saved them; he frames their future as a chance to start fresh, learn from their mistakes, and serve humanity as heroes.

Esme sees agreement among those gathered and understands the reversal as a rare opportunity to make better use of their lives. The headquarters’ surroundings therefore become the setting for a renewed collective beginning, not merely a return to the group’s former arrangements. Its significance lies in the contrast carried across its scenes: a place for medical care and solidarity can also be penetrated by violence and compromised by its own allies, yet after time is reversed it becomes a meeting point from which the group can attempt a different future.
