Texas Highway Patrol
The Outsider (Stephen King Edition)The Texas Highway Patrol is the state law-enforcement agency that responds to the Marysville Hole crisis and joins the Flint City Police Department in investigating what happened there. Its arrival marks the shift from an isolated ambush and rescue emergency to a formal, continuing investigation whose details remain restricted from the public.
Role in the Marysville Response
After the ambush at the Marysville Hole, Yunel Sablo warns the assailant that the Highway Patrol is on its way and that the arriving officers will pose an immediate threat. The warning is an attempt to make the assailant flee and spare the survivors further danger; the gunfire that follows shows that the threat does not end the confrontation.
Later, two Texas Highway Patrol cars pass the surviving investigators on their way to the Marysville Hole. Sablo wonders whether one of the responding officers is Owen Sipe, the patrolman who had spoken with the Boltons. The exchange places the Highway Patrol in both the immediate emergency response and the investigation’s earlier contacts with local witnesses.
Joint Investigation and Public Account
In a subsequent public statement, Bill Samuels says that the investigation into the Marysville events is being conducted jointly by the Texas Highway Patrol and the Flint City Police Department. He identifies Yunel Sablo as the liaison working with both organizations, establishing a formal channel of cooperation across the agencies.
Samuels declines to answer questions about the Marysville events because the inquiry is ongoing. The announcement acknowledges the deaths of Howard Gold and Alec Pelley and presents the intervention as having prevented a child from suffering a fate like Frank Peterson’s. The Texas Highway Patrol is thus associated with both the continuing effort to establish what happened and the official account of why the response mattered, even as the investigation’s details remain undisclosed.
