Daedra West Memorial Event Attack

The Peripheral

Daedra West’s memorial gathering becomes a sudden security crisis when she tells Flynne Fisher that she is in danger and isolates her and Wilf Netherton from their guard. The warning is followed by an escape attempt that ends under attack: the gathering’s formal, carefully managed surroundings offer no reliable protection, and the scene closes without confirming what happens to Wilf.

Setting and Arrival

The gathering is identified as a celebration of life. Flynne enters an expansive interior whose windows are clear and whose walls have been removed, opening the space to the view of the river. The changed layout recalls Lev’s father’s gallery, while the clusters of people dressed in black establish the memorial’s atmosphere.

Conner Penske is stationed near the elevator, assessing the room as a bodyguard. He notes that the elevator is the only way in or out of the building, apart from stairs to the floors above and below, and identifies other imposing figures as security. The arrangement suggests that access and surveillance have been considered, but it does not prevent the danger Daedra later identifies.

Daedra’s Warning and Separation

Daedra tells Flynne that she is not safe and blames Wilf for bringing her to the gathering. When Daedra’s peripheral is led away, the conversation becomes more consequential: Daedra orders two robot attendants to take Conner apart. One moves with striking speed, and a curved wall appears around Daedra, Flynne, and Wilf, cutting them off from the rest of the room.

Flynne tests the barrier with the peripheral’s knuckles and feels pain, establishing that it is a real obstruction rather than a visual trick. Daedra explains that whoever was operating Flynne’s guard has been returned to the place and time from which the guard was controlled, where they can report that Flynne is in trouble. She recognizes the immediate effect on Conner: if the robots destroy the peripheral he is using, he will wake beside Burton at Coldiron. Her warning thus separates the group physically while making clear that the people outside the enclosure may not understand the danger in time.

The Man at the Wall

The man Flynne had seen on a balcony appears inside the enclosure by stepping through its wall. Earlier, he had been seen in a dark brown robe; at the gathering he wears a black suit, with a trimmed dark beard and a smile. Flynne asks how he did it, but the evidence provided here does not explain his method. His passage through a barrier that has just been established as physically real deepens the gathering’s sense of unstable control.

The Attempted Escape and Attack

Daedra orders Wilf out and pushes him as they reach the bottom floor. The elevator doors have been made to appear in the circular wall, apparently through extensive use of assemblers; Wilf recalls that there were restrictions on such wholesale use, though they may not apply or may be disregarded here. In the lobby, Daedra’s friend leads the way toward a black car. Gray-clad Michikoids stand in two lines facing one another, and Wilf feels a brief celebratory elation at the formal escort.

That sense of orderly passage collapses as they approach the car. A low, extended bass note sounds, and Daedra’s friend runs for the open rear door, with Wilf following. Amid what appears to be debris from a window, Wilf sees a Michikoid’s head and then a white arm strike the car’s roof. He is shoved into the vehicle’s pearl-gray interior while someone screams nearby. The scene does not identify the attacker or establish who is injured, and it ends without resolving whether Wilf escapes the attack.

Significance and Unresolved Outcome

The event reverses the apparent security of the memorial. The building has a controlled entrance, a bodyguard, robotic attendants, and a formal escort, yet Daedra’s warning shows that Flynne’s presence has exposed her to danger. The barrier meant to isolate and protect the central group also removes its guard from immediate reach; the escape route then becomes the site of the attack.

The gathering’s polished social order and the sudden violence remain in sharp contrast. The black-clad guests, open gallery-like space, and paired Michikoids frame an occasion of remembrance, but they cannot guarantee safety. The scene ends at the threshold of the car rather than with a confirmed outcome, preserving uncertainty about the attack and Wilf’s fate.
