Puerto Caicedo
The Power of the DogPuerto Caicedo is a FARC-controlled town west of Puerto Asís, on the north side of the river. Its position makes it a marker of the fragmented territorial control surrounding the river: the government holds Puerto Asís and the nearby north bank, while FARC control extends to Puerto Caicedo.
Setting and Control
The town lies west of Puerto Asís, even though it is on the river’s north side. Across the river, Puerto Vega is also under FARC control. These nearby boundaries distinguish government-held ground from areas controlled by insurgent forces without following a simple division by riverbank.
Role in the Narrative
Art Keller learns about Puerto Caicedo while speaking with Javier near the river. Javier is anxious to leave the riverbank, so Art walks back with him to what the narrative calls “safe” territory. The brief exchange makes the town’s political control tangible: movement through this landscape is shaped by who holds each nearby settlement and stretch of river.
