A Town After Dark

A Town After Dark
A community under restriction
The party reaches Ashenhave to find its streets dark and its residents behind a makeshift barrier. The town has barred entry and exit after nightfall because ghosts have been touching residents and leaving them dangerously cold.
A healer is admitted
When the guards learn that Theo is a healer, they allow him inside alone. The urgency of the crisis overrides their suspicion, while Luc and the rest of the party must wait outside.
The lockdown shows how fear has altered the ordinary life of the town. It also places Theo in a familiar role: entering a crisis to care for people even when doing so separates him from his own safety.
The Ghost-Touched

The Ghost-Touched
Cold spreading through the town
Theo finds a group of residents suffering grey, feverish skin after ghost contact. Ala, the local witch, is in the worst condition because she was directly touched while protecting a child.
Care before explanation
Theo orders a fire to keep the patients warm and uses healing magic to counter the ghost-touch. He works through the night, while the townspeople provide food and gradually see that his help is real.
The crisis is not solved by force alone. The immediate work of keeping victims alive buys the party time to understand the source of the haunting.
The Child in the Well

The Child in the Well
A memory at the source
Theo touches the abandoned well and experiences fear, hunger, and the memory of a child left underground by an older brother. The ghost is not pursuing revenge so much as waiting for someone who promised to return.
The source becomes personal
A nested corpse protects the well, and Theo sees the child’s figure within it. The haunting’s danger is connected to a specific act of abandonment rather than a senseless curse.
Recognizing the ghost’s emotional history changes the objective. The party must end the violence without reducing the child to a monster that simply needs destroying.
The Ghost Released

The Ghost Released
A dangerous nest burned away
Wicker ignites the corpse that houses the ghost while Theo uses his healing magic to offer the child a way home. The boy approaches Theo, and his painful memories begin to fade as the magic reaches him.
Ritual completes the work
Wicker performs a rite for the other spirits linked to the well. Theo collapses the structure afterward, preventing it from remaining a source of further hauntings.
The solution combines compassion, practical danger, and ritual knowledge. It acknowledges the child’s suffering without pretending that one magical act can repair the life he lost.
A Town Returns to Life

A Town Returns to Life
Recovery after the haunting
The affected residents wake and gradually return to their lives, while Ala continues recovering from the deepest exposure. The party helps with the delayed harvest and makes the town’s homes safer through protective wards.
Celebration restored
Ashenhave holds its Pumpkin Festival, bringing residents and travelers into the streets again. The party is welcomed not only as fighters but as people who helped make the community’s ordinary rhythms possible.
The festival offers a measure of repair rather than a denial of what happened. The town can celebrate because the danger has passed and because its residents have returned to shared life.
